[Bug] Aircraft Not Rendering Beyond 1km in Sim Mode – Game Nearly Unplayable

I don’t want to jinx anything but last night it seemed like everything was good again … 🤞🤞🤞

Sadly, can’t confirm.
Also no notice in the changelogs. Probably just lucky with the fog.
At this point I WILL expect Premium Time compensation… it is nearing a month…

I really wish “Hazy” weather mode didn’t exist.

It’s EVERY damn Sim match. Hazy conditions. Hazy, hazy, hazy, nuclear sun on the horizon obscuring half the map with a massive bright halo of light AND hazy.

Are the weather conditions bugged or something?

I mean it’s a slight improvement over 7/10 to 9.5/10 cloud cover the month before, but yeah it’s shite making you unable to see and the issue is back. Long range spotting on non-hazy maps is fine…but the crucial medium range is not…so from about 7 to 1.2-1.5 Km you can’t see anything.

And that’s the point where you maneuver to gain the upper hand.

Added my voice to the bugreport, couldn’t upload the replay, because it was claimed to be too large.

They asked for more detail and feedback in the bug report. I posted this:

I think the easiest place to see the bug is in test flight. I suggest this:

  • Select a 4k resolution (3840x2160)
  • Select any ww2 plane (so you fly slowly and have time to look around)
  • Set: Simulator mode (no ID labels)
  • Set location: Western Europe
  • Select LOW level drone target (the biplane)
  • Select start 2KM above airfield

Now you can fly around and attempt to spot the drone while it BELOW you. At a long distance, or when it is above the horizon, you can spot it fairly easily. At long distances, the very dark, high contrast “dot” can be picked out.

But at medium to close distance, when the “dot” is replaced by the full detail aircraft model, the drone will almost disappear into the ground. On 4k resolutions in particular it is very difficult to spot, and you can easily lose it, if you look away for even an instant. Losing targets in dogfights is now occurring constantly in sim.

This is DIFFERENT from the appearance of targets pre-leviathan, when they were easier to make out at medium to close distances. I believe there was an old process that made the contacts slightly LARGER and darker at medium distances that has been removed.

It appears that targets are always rendered with a minimum pixel size (of one), so currently the situation for users is that is is easier to spot targets at medium distance if they have LOWER resolutions.

My suggestion is to either:
1)slightly increase the visual size of contacts at medium distances, to match previous pre-leviathan behavior (the 1-pixel “halo”)
2) increase the darkness and contrast of contacts at medium distances, (decrease the distance at which contacts “switch” to the full realistic rendering)
3) Do both???

In my opinion, I think there’s an issue with the rendering in general, becuase in my experience, i’ve noticed that dots become bigger when not zoomed out, and then when you zoom in they magically become smaller somehow

For some extremely weird reason, they don’t even appear on the radar, especially premium aircraft which means that if this affects everyone, some planes simply stop being registered in the client or the server is hiding them.

also loss of detail.

Not gonna lie there are much better sim games that you’d find better use for that

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

Everyone if you can, go and add to the “You have same issue” button on the bug here:

If we’re lucky Gaijin may finally look into the contacts disappearing when zooming in/out that has been plaguing sim forever.

Supposedly not an issue ;)

Support replied (and closed the ticket):

I checked again this situation Community Bug Reporting System , and see that in this case aircraft with green camo on green background. Not looks like error.

there is a change compared to the previous patch, but but thanks to the change, many aircraft became better visible in such cases, and they became more detailed.

If there are any situations that are not similar to this, please file a separate report. With screenshots/video and a replay, and preferably wtr.
if possible. Thank you.

So if anyone finds a good situation to clarify the report, please feel free to open a new ticket.
I couldn’t find a perfect situation to record it, I must confess it have noticed it less lately, but I am convinced it is still there, also other people have talked to me about it during matches.

Remember to post the link to the report here to check if its the same we are experiencing and support the ticket.

Best regards,

That is some weapons grade BS.
I think we should talk with Catwerfer, he’s organizing something to help everyone with the HE shell problem, maybe if we help him, he can help us organize some support for this issue.

The bug with rendering enemy aircraft has returned. In various situations, enemy planes render at a distance of less than 8–12 km.
Look, the dot becomes invisible at around 11 km.

Just try 55" 4K tv as monitor.
Visibility is perfect at all distances. You can see the trucs in the bases… You can see the the skin of the planes 1 kilometer wide. And the best part - your cockpit have the dimensions of a real one in front of you. Like you are really in.

It took me 10 years to discover this.

No. I play in VR, the visibility is garbage.

After some testing with setting in training flights, I think the visibility issue is related to weather conditions. I see that weather conditions like HAZY, THUNDERCLOUDS, CLOUDY, LOW CLOUD COVER, seem to cause the disappearing issue.

Note that this isn’t players diving into cloud cover, but instead I think the rendering engine when clouds and hazy conditions are enabled, make the planes blend into the background much more than they should. For example, I can see dots from miles out, but when the issue occurs, I will have planes at dogfighting range, just “fade out” into the background even when I’m directly looking right at them. It’s really odd. Then I will often re-aquire them at medium-long distance.

When weather conditions are clear, I can spot planes razor sharp at all distances, from dots, to up close.

There are bots flying in the test flight mode. In simulator battles, the visibility of bots is fine.
I’ve also noticed what you described sometimes, but player rendering works completely differently.

Try playing a custom battle with someone, preferably using an aircraft equipped with radar, and see how it looks.
In my case, the player’s aircraft rendered at around 8–10 km.
