British Weapon Systems - Technical data and discussion

They do have a proximity fuse on dev…

I have specifically tested this, they do and the statcard agrees.

They aren’t a huge missile, so dont expect the proxy radius to be huge either (it’s 2.5m)

Pretty sure most SAMs have a 25 m minimum altitude. Not sure what heli missiles have it.

Seperately, the launch window for Martlets seems to be tiny, you need to be pointed exactly at the target to fire them.

This seems a bit odd as they are quite manuverable, hopefully we see it fixed as its quite a lot more limited than the Vikhr for example.

Apart from that they seem to be pretty good

Javelin (the British missile, not the American missile) had a 3 m proximity fuse radius, so I guess there might be a case for increasing Martlet to 3 m as it is a descendent of Javelin.

thought the same, cant even fire at the target from a hover. Was expecting a far larger area, at least vertically, if not horizontally

That sounds reasonable, it appears that the current trigger radius is just copied over from the Vikhr

Compare it to the Vikhr and it’s tiny, it might just be a placeholder but in general it really needs changing. I can’t think of any reason it should be that constricted.

However, I’m not entirely sure how to go about reporting it

Yeah, they’ll want 15000 primary sources for it.

The best option I can think of is looking at the videos of it being fired and what the attitude of the heli is at the time of firing

Like here, its not just in a hover, but actually lofting hte missiles slightly, though might also be the camera angle.

its exactly same don’t know what you’re on about

Yep, exactly the same (the Vihkr one extends down way furthur than you can see btw)

its 5 degrees wide on both. Vikhr can just move in its mout.

They both have same launch zones

this is the avtual launch zone of the Vhikr

what you are looking at is the Ka-50 that has pylons that can tilt up and down

Regardless, the launch zone of the Martlet is unrealistically small.

You cannot even fire them at a target while you are hoving, unless you tilt the helicopter forwards. We have seen Wildcats launching at ground targets while hoving, so this cannot be the case.

and your source is what?

Videos of the Wildcat firing…

Exactly, you might be able to report something (with sources) because starstreak has 10 degrees but ultimately you’re limited to how the missile pod is mounted.

but for refernece:

  • Vikhr is 5 degree
  • khrizanthema, ataka is 9 degree
  • zt3 is 5 degree
  • Kornet is 10 degree (on drone)
  • Starstreak is 10 degree
