Because having a lineup you dont need to uptier is more fun then uptiering a lineup. Also so the vehicle actually has a bit of a stand out position, is more interesting and doesnt just fade into the background after a few weeks/months as often happens to these event tanks and is more historically correct with the correct ammo.
Really it comes down to keeping it interesting, I 100% see its use drop after the initial shine comes off at its current/a higher BR, at 9.3 it would be a constant in lineups as its unique and has strong turret armour.
I think I do remember it once having a 0.5m proxy fuze a whiiiiiiiile ago. At the time I used it with the Teapache, and it worked well. And by a while I mean like, idk, 2-3 years. I could be mistaken tho.
Yeah, I dont think you can. I just fear Gaijin would look at Stormer HVM with Marlets and decide its 11.0 instead. Which basically means it can only be used with the CR2s at 11.7.
10.7 would be fine, but would suck if it was higher than that
I mean, 16 500mm pen atgms with prox does sound pretty powerful, that is untill you realise the 6.5km range and the fact thatll be more for helis (still think the stormer should have more than 7km range against helis considering the 7km range was for 9g targets…). What i would prefer is if they added the warrior variant with martlets and the 40mm (i think), would give us our “linebacker/lav” and would fill the top tier ifv simultaneous with the spaa role. Would be perfect as it gets prox rounds as well making it THE death of anything within 6km.
6.5km range is just one of the figures given for Martlets, I imagine it is probably the lowest “maximum range” in suboptimal conditions. The “guaranteed range” i guess.
I’ve seen in excess of 8km stated in several reliable places.
And yes, the Stormer’s range should almost certainly be over 7km. I don’t know if we have the Starstreak I or II ingame, but the II’s range is stated to be greater than 7km.
VERDI II unfortunately was made quite a while before Martlets entered service. The Martlet is a much newer missile than the Starstreak, mostly made as a multipurpose missile to threats such as drones, light/medium armoured vehicles, attack aircraft and small vessels. VERDI-2’s trials ended in 1995 I believe.
Starsteak started production in 1986, while Martlet entered service only in 2021. So the VERDI-II would never have used the Martlet irl, however, the missiles share the same launcher and guidance system so it would be theoretically possible for the VERDI-II to use Martlets.
The VERDI-II historically would have been limited to only Starstreaks and the 40mm CTA gun.
I can’t remember if I’ve posted this already, but I was doing some research and found a prototype air to ground missile called the “Typhoon”, it is essentially an air to ground version of the ASRAAM.
Range of around 10km
IR seeker (same as the ASRAAM)
Tandem HEAT warhead
I cannot find any images of it mounted to an aircraft, however there is an image demonstrating how it would be mounted to the harrier
It was a competitor for the Brimstones specification, proposed in 1994 by British Aerospace. It was at one point in direct competition with the Brimstone precusor, the “Advanced Anti-Armour Weapon (AAAW)”. However, it ultimately lost to the Brimstone due to not fully meeting specifications.
Its very hard to find any kind of solid data on the missile sadly
That would be a very nice/niche missile for gaijin to give to the UK, finally something that competes with everyone elses fire and forget systems?
I do wonder though how it would find/lock on ground targets for WT though, given its using the ASRAAM seeker head, would we fire it like we do air to air IR missiles, except at the ground? So qwasi guessing what it is we lock and fire at? Or just the same as other air to ground FnF when fired 3rd person.
