who gives a damn its an spaa, it rarely looks upclose plus i usually use the spaa menu anyhow
Does the commanders sight for the Ajax have the same optical day zoom as the gunner sight irl?
They are the same sight iirc
Yeah, they are the same sight, just the Commander sight rotates

“ The sensors themselves have moved to different technology from the original line scanning TI of Cr 2. One of the key differences is the use of MWIR for both commander and gunner, which gives improved atmospheric penetration. TI can sometimes struggle when there is a high water density,” Stewart explained.” Yup, however we don’t know for sure if it’s Catherine MP that was selected given other parts of the sensor package are being new developed.
god I cant deal with 8x zoom upclose lads
Would suspect the already used theatres is referring to challenger 2 TISP
Double check if the game uses vertical or horizontal fob’s due to aspect ratio differences.
I do not have anything to check it on, im trusting da12 on it.
Fair enough.
ah yes my favourite zoom options
- general observation
- electron microscope
That’s only cuz I used IR channel. TV goes up to 320x
Catherine MP was installed operationally as the gunner’s thermal sight on both Challenger 3 and Ajax’s direct predecessors, and Thales don’t publicly appear to offer another HD-resolution imaging system.
It has been the preferred UK sovereign, cooled imager since the late-2000s, and had considerable government funding to ensure its status as a UK sovereign capability.
Unless Thales UK have made something better somewhere, or you believe CR3 is going to have worse gunner thermals than Challenger 2 and Scimitar 2, there is practical certainty that we are using Catherine MP in the current Ajax and CR3’s DNGS-T3 (and Orion) setup.
The Catherine MP camera is visible in the above brochure image of the dismounted DNGS-T3
On that note, it matches to the MW one, due to the separate black cylinder (connector?) in the bottom right corner.
MW, here the cylinder is red
LW, lack of therfore
That helps a little, but does not prove anything.
Orion also can be seen mounted with the MW, as you can see the bump with a slope on the side, that is at the base of the cylinder.

The Caliber Defence article talks about the “Thales SharpView” imager, i havent heard of it before

It states its MWIR
This isnt a primary source though
SharpView is a real thing
https://www.thalesgroup.com/en/news-centre/events/united-states/ausa#:~:text=Counter%20UAS%20System-,SharpView,-Thermal%20Camera
is there a chance the SharpView imager is essentially a secondary commanders imager for the future RWS of the Challenger 3
Afaik the commander of the CR2 could use the RWS imager but that may have been as he didnt have a CITV
edit: im dumb it states its for the main commanders sight
Dunno
they really dont make this easy for us, not that war thunder bug reports are exactly their main focus
