Yeah SharpView is the branding they’re using for a compact imager used on the British Army’s Boxer’s RWS. That model used to be called Catherine EZ. From what I’ve read, the SharpView brand is now also applied to the imager chosen for the USMC’s Protector RS6 turrets for JLTV, which was previously branded as Thales TIM-LR. My initial guess is they are rebranding the sights that have Thales “Smart Zoom” image upscaling technology (think along the lines of DLSS) that was on Catherine EZ.
SharpView may also be used for the PAAG multi-function sight head that looks like it may replace CR3’s Orion installation for the commander as it’s being advertised as True Hunter.
But the article says MWIR for both the gunner and commander. Gunner seems to be continuing with DNGS-T3 (i.e. Catherine MP), and CR3 TD we have ingame was using Orion, as do the CR3 prototypes fielded so far
Honesty, if you want to go with anything, just go with the MW one, it can be physically seen on both DNGS and Orion, so you have some base. That gives us 10-2.3degree, so 7-32x
im dreading them giving the 3TD and future pre production CR3s a 6x fixed sight, that would be absolutely miserable for an MBT
Its somewhat useable on the AJAX as its an autocannon vehicle, i think they’re just keeping the 3TD at its current zoom as they realise 6x would be horrific ingame
the type 90 at least has some decent variable zoom on the commanders optic
If the Challenger 3 pre-productions come with actual mantlet armour and a 5 second reload i can see them being quite good, otherwise, they’ll just be medicore
True Hunter is the CR3’s hunter-killer capability. It’s not a single sight called True Hunter but a family of systems and the DigitalCrew software. The combination of the gunner’s sight (which to date is DNGS-T3, with no mention of that being replaced) and the new commander’s sight which if the UKDJ footage is to be believed, would be the PAAG sight illustrated in their article.
The article says Ajax already uses “a variant” of the True Hunter system and that most definitely doesn’t have PAAG (uses Orion), but does have the DNGS-T3 - hence is a variant of that system performing Ajax’s hunter-killer capability. On the other hand, the variation could simply be that the Ajax version of True Hunter is LWIR (as suggested in 2016) and CR3 is MWIR.
It seems like gaijin may have removed the internal division between the AJAX’s crew compartment and ammo, if you shoot there now the plate dosent appear in the protection analysis xray
