British Helicopter Tech Tree - Discussion Topic

oh i see, that would be cool to do but if it doesn’t pay well i don’t see anyone doing it and it will be pointless

Do you guys think we could ever see the westland attack helicopter that was based of the lynx in game? Even as a premium or event vehicle? Think the only problem is I don’t know if anything was built before it was cancelled

I imagine the Wildcat will go down in BR after the next BR changes, if it was 11.7 or so it would honestly be quite fun.

It should never have dropped at 12.3, but with some changes it can be saved

Also, it will be getting the Sea Venoms (likely next patch) which are much better than the Spikes

Nothing suggests that the devs will lower br of the fnf helis. It seems much more likely that MITL will be introduced in a future patch to help 12.3 - 12.7 helis, which, however, won’t save wildcat (and I don’t think it will help the other 12.7 helis either).

Sadly it didn’t exist beyond mockups.

the wildcat is a joke the spikes take 33 seconds to travel 4000m and will still not kill the target before someone else does who’s just taken off from the airfield its beyond a joke no point getting it or even trying to get the modules for it and the marlets 2 inch launch make it pretty much imposible to shoot when getting shot at and all you would see is the wildcat just becoming a nodding dog just to launch the dam things.

Same could be said about other vehicles in the game but they’re still in the game, at least this vehicle would help the British tech tree out

shame this isn’t a thing same with the missile on the apache as shown here

Thats not the case actually. We recently removed the R2Y2s for this very reason. So we are hardly going to now introduce something that’s the same situation: [Development] Announcing the Removal of the R2Y2 from Research - News - War Thunder

In War Thunder, we want to include vehicles that were complete and built; either in full, in the prototype phase or in the experimental phase

Where ZA-HVM?

Having two variants of the Wildcat would be very nice, one with only Martlets at perhaps 10.7 and one featuring MITL missiles (Spike NLOS and Sea Venom) at 11.7+

so what about that russian battleship? that only existed on a napkin nothing got built of that

If you are referring to the Sovetsky Soyuz, it was laid down, just like HMS Lion:

Ships have different standards for consideration to the game, as they do not have “prototypes” or experimental versions. Thus for a ship to be considered for the game, its requirement is to have been laid down: [QA] Answers from the developers - News - War Thunder

Q. Will there be projects for series H battleships for Germany in the game? They were laid, but were soon dismantled. The battleship Bismarck will not be able to withstand Yamato and Iowa on equal terms. We would like to see the H-39 project.

We consider as possible the addition of similar ships, those that were laid down, but were not completed in reality.

but in that retro specs the westland wg series exist in some form as they use parts from the lynx so in theory it should operate the same way

We don’t add vehicles to the game because a component(s) of their respective manufacturer series was common in design.

Again, its only ships that have the laid down rule. As they do not have prototypes or experimental versions. Which Aircraft, tanks and Helicopters all do.

So the Westland Attack helicopter is not viable for the game.

hmm if you say so, seems like rules only apply to certain nations, just my view

It doesn’t though. It applies the same for all nations. As I just mentioned above. Britain just received HMS Lion last major update, which was laid down only and the same stage that Sovetsky Soyuz reached.

i mean for other vehicles, such as japans f16 that never existed

F-16AJ is just an F-16A Block 5 / 10 as built. For the AJ proposal that was put to Japan.

It was introduced at a time when they had no other alternative for a viable top tier jet, before they had any sub trees and before more advanced jets were possible. So it was a key balance concern.

The same is not the case here for Britain, that has no shortage of helicopters at top tier or of possible real examples to call upon if required from its roster and sub trees.
