Thats not the case. Its counterparts are Vikhir and Starstreak, both of which are laser beam riding like LMM. APKWS uses a different system.
APWKS is Semi-Active Laser Homing, which as others have pointed out works completely differently to Laser Beam Riding.
Yahoo, killed wildcat via spikes and now another starstreak nerf for ah mk1 incoming (the 4th one in the last 3 years). What’s with the gaijin’s desire to make all helicopters except the 13.0 unplayable? It would be better if they made that 10° window the new standard for all beam riding missiles.
Martlet has a known minimum effective engagement range of 400m, approximately what it would need to reorient and enter the collimated field.
Again, the videos of the thing firing upward at a target below it about a kilometer away feels like more than enough evidence of this capability to me. Ground ATGMs can do it in game already, hell even SACLOS Heli missiles do it.
I understand that this is just where the line has been drawn in this case, but it feels infuriatingly arbitrary in the face of clear evidence to the contrary.
so when can we expect different variants of marlet then that are sal or ir guided as we know they can be fitted with such seekers
There is no evidence those seekers were ever built.
there’s no evidence that the kh38mt exists but its in game op as ever, so not really a good excuse so since one fake missile exists why not spread the love

With it, we could argue that it’s still beamriding but doesn’t need to have a restricted launch window
I only have the “mode” sources which are fairly useless given the misunderstandings around “modes” . Although as stated before, it doesn’t need IOG to exhibit the behaviour we’re describing; the targeting camera and guidance projector are coupled, but not locked, to each other. Same as Starstreak (though they aren’t modeled that way in game for Starstreaks either)

The SAL seeker was certainly built for Freefall LMM. Whether or not you’d consider that compatible with regular LMM is definitely debatable.
It’s a modular system by design, so I would.
Tested SAL seeker from the freefall + in-service LMM on the Wildcat + mockups of the SAL seeker LMM (I think) = more than they needed for KH-38MT.
So yeah, Probably could argue for it, but beamriding with IOG would be more than enough, as the IOG would effectively remove any launch restrictions
rather have the ir seeker being its 12.3 br, but the sal seeker would be a lot better than beam riding as larger LW
Yeah, even if it meant we had an effective minimum engagement range (of 400m) then I’d definitely take an IOG+Beam over a somewhat theoretical version.
I also think the same system would make for a nice and accurate buff for Starstreaks, but that would be asking a lot.
Yeah, those would be good too, but this is Gaijin we are talking about, and a british vehicles. they might agree if we ask for something little.
Starstreaks since the changes have such random flight paths now, they are basically impossible to use.
Aye, but if the launcher led it’s target properly that would be much like less of an issue imo.
