Br decompression (and why it doesn’t work)

No, it compresses the game further. It means that any br change for a vehicle will more drastically change its mm.

currently, if a vehicle gets moved up, about 25% of the vehicles it can see changes. With your suggestion, that would increase to 33%

That would stay the same, if a vehicle moved from 10.3 to 10.7 it would go from seeing 10.7 to 11.0

Exactly as it would be in the current system but better. if it were moved to 10.7 you wouldn’t see 11.7 anymore

My math was a bit wrong. It would go from 28.6% to 66.6% change.

Currently, you can see 7 different brs. EX: 10.0 can see 9.0, 9.3, 9.7, 10.0, 10.3, 10,7, and 11.0

Under your suggestion that changes to 3. EX: 10.0 can see, 9.7, 10.0, 10.3.

This would make most heavy tanks incredibly OP as their biggest counter currently is getting uptiered.

It’s nice seeing the facts win out finally.
A 4 separation matchmaker with a bit more decompression in a few more BRs quite literally fixes the balance entirely.

Having a +/- 0.3 BR MM is a bit too much if you ask me.
Getting more BR steps in total would be a far better idea though.

well not really it just means that you hide the problem more and make it more abrupt when it comes into sight while also making the concept of moving vehicles up and down in BR a far more aggressive thing to before. a 6.0 vehicle going to 6.3 would be like moving it to 6.7-7.0 with such a change as you wish.

If vehicles like the T55AM, 2S38 and early stabilised or APFSDS vehicles get spread across further then you wont get as horrendous BRs to play like 9.7 where you get nothing but premium pack uptiers

So you would rather see the T55am1 in 7.7 than 8.3 matches? Or the 2S38 in 9.3 instead of 10.0?

What? If this is an issue the tanks need a br adjustment, they are there for a reason.

It’s also considerably harder to balance a single bracket when there are only 2 potential BRs, rather than 4 steps.

We need proper decompression, not this.

I used them as an example of a tank that causes compression from being under BR. T55 am br area should be spread out a lot more as there ww2 tanks fighting stuff from the 1970s and the 2s38 should be at 11.0 because of its good penetration from its spamcanon and AA ability

I think max spread of 0.7 would be enough. Nothing speaks against trying it out, like the APHE changes.

I get it, but in the current meta there are certain br that always have top or bottom tier every game and it basically defeats the purpose of this when tanks are facing completely superior counterparts every battle. This would help solve going against tanks a full br higher.

And br issues like the 2S38 are gaijins ignorance, but I’d rather face one in a 10.0 than a 9.3

Uptier/downtier are simply dictated by the volume of players in a given BR, and reducing the match spread just winds up making a bunch of vehicles ridiculously broken. (cough A-4N)

I don’t understand this logic, it’s going to be less broken not going 1 full br down! Now it sees 8.7, it would only see 9.3 where there are plenty of stingers and iglas

This would cause massive issues. Many BRs are depopulated or have only a couple nations with lineups. Take 11.3 for example, there are hardly any 11.0s so they would always be at 11.7.
This would just make apparent compression worse because instead of fighting a variety of vehicles, you’d always be fighting the same small group of vehicles which exaggerates the performance difference between them. I mean just look how much people complain about top tier, because there are no uptiers or downtiers to give breathing room.

0.3 or 0.7 would not only break the system which is in many ways designed around 1.0, but also very importantly it’s entirely unintuitive. The actual solution is just to move somethings further apart (though not actually as much as some people like to yell for).

Something else which would help with balancing without affecting compression/matchmaking would be to actually use all decimal points. This would more than triple the nuance that can be applied to balance, especially vehicles that are close-but-different in performance, with no actual downsides. And it’s more intuitive.

It really wouldn’t though, some vehicles would definitely need br adjustments but there is nothing stopping you from having the same lineup as before but with less matchmaking spread.

So what you’re saying is vehicles would be moved from BRs where they’re balanced for the sake of lineups, and you’re in favor of this? You think that’s decompression? To effectively reduce the number of BRs by squishing, literally compressing, vehicles into single-BR lineups?

Part of the problem is Gaijin trying to go for the record of we have the most vehicles than any other game award.
A vast amount of ships/planes and vehicles have no place or point in the game, so they have to balance them to make them playable to some extent. all this does is either moves the problem to somewhere else or creates an unbalanced situation to the advantage or detriment of certain vehicles.
Having the random RNG/ghost shells built into the game can alleviate this but this is done across the board so everybody suffers.
Yes it is nice not to all be using the same thing ( realistically that was a thing though) but the mechanics of the game curtail this a lot and some vehicles are practically unplayable to the point of uselessness.
