BR changing of A6M52a/b to 6.0 is totally insane

For most they are not that high. All the long wing models can only do 660kph; A6M5 and A6M3 32 are a little better at 703kph rip speed but still below most.

They lose speed very quickly.

There is no realistic nerf that can be done that will get them as low as 3.3.

They are in line with every other cannon.

Cant check in game as im at work, but wiki says 703kph IAS for base A6M5, and 777kph for Ko/Otsu. But Im pretty sure thats wrong, as from my hundreds of games played in these aircraft Im pretty sure base A6M5 rip speed is ~660kph and Ko/Otsu are 720kph?

Anyway, regardless of that detail, the reality is it takes them forever to get there even in a full high alt crash dive to the deck. And once you pull out of the dive your airspeed drops like a stone, they cant hold it at all. Almost all other fighters including Spitfires can accelerate and hold that airspeed significantly better.

The cannons havent been changed. They deserve some benefit for being the lowest RoF cannon in the game. They arent any more potent than a Hispano or Shvak. Realistically its just the MG151 that was artificially nerfed that needs to be put back to how it was.

At 6.0 itll be facing AN/M3s/Mk V Hispanos which are significantly more powerful.

La-7s are Yaks that love speed (don’t compress and can use it for sharp turns) but everywhere else in low speed they are worse than them.

That’s my feel for them at least.

This applies to all aircraft weapons, not just Japanese ones.

It was most likely changed a while back. A6M5 Ko and otsu used thicker wing skin than A6M5 to improve dive speed.

And once you do that you’ll have to reclimb at 20m/s. A Bearcat meanwhile can shallow dive at 800kph effortlessly.

so sad :(((

As if I didn’t have enough reason to solely use my spaded A6Ms to hunt CAS in Combined Ground…now with a BR this ridiculous due to the declining average brain cell count of the playerbase they pretty much need the lack of markers to jump on people before they can think to run away.

The Zero dodged becoming labeled a superprop. But it’s okay, we can still pull down jets to lower BRs so it still has to see them. Lets get the F-84B to 6.7 next.

Ever since the game existed they had shit guns (it was just normality at the time and helped balance their performance) then about 5 years ago they massively buffed the guns. - Then they received an energy retention buff (imo) and here we are with it overperforming and being bumped to 6.0.
It is really as simple as that.
If you were playing between 2013 - 2020 you would agree.

Zero’s are and always have been a handful and it is almost a death sentence to engage it in a 1v1 dogfight, however prior to the gun/ammo buff, unlike other aircraft, their ammo was utter dogshit and firerate was low - meaning that when it inevitably outmaneuvered you and got on your 6 etc - it would have a hard time getting a kill/hit with its guns, they were slow, ammo did nothing 70% of time and would jam and you would be thinking “thankfuck”. - - Oh and they would use most of their ammo on 1 guy so less of a threat to teammates whether you died or not.

But as I say - since they done the buff about 5 years or so ago - their br has increased gradually to where we are now.

I never agreed to the buffs nor the br increase but hey ho, this is warthunder now i guess.

The zero perform completely different from how they used to years ago, undo the buff and put it back down to 4.7/5.0.

I’ve been playing the game since Planes OBT in 2012.

I do not remember all the patches that happened to Zeros over the ~14 years Ive been playing, especially as I had taken hiatuses in between. I do remember they used to roll about as well as bombers back in the early days, but to be fair I remember very little about their flight models or how they handled pre 2020 if they have been buffed since then.

I have gone back through all the Major updates, Control+F’ing “A6M”, and compiled all of the Zero Flight model changes that have happened over the years:

Spoiler

2.35 Alpha Strike (2024): A6M5 Hei, A6M6c — the weight of these aircraft has been reduced to 3145 kg (when with full fuel and without secondary weapons).

2.23 Apex Predators (2022): A6M (all modifications) — Flight model has been updated. Fuel consumption has been updated. Fuel distribution and fuel tank usage order has been clarified.

1.91 Night Visions (2020): A6M5 (all modifications) — Bugs, leading to incorrect aircraft controllability on certain settings of control types, have been fixed (in general, control in all game modes has been improved

1.51 Cold Steel (2015): A6M (all models) - Specified the calculation for the airflow on the horizontal tail surfaces, refined the calculation of the transition processes and damped in all axes. Edited inertia calculations, and geometry calculations of the wings. Stalling, due to executing a turn is more likely now. Decreased takeoff distance. Changed engine operations in automatic control mode;

1.47 Big Guns (2015): * A6M2 mod 11 - flight model has been updated. An error that led to improved handling with damaged tail-unit has been fixed. Handling has become smoother. Aiming on all control modes has been improved.

  • A6M2 - flight model has been updated. An error that led to improved handling with damaged tail-unit has been fixed. Handling has become smoother. Aiming on all control modes has been improved.
  • A6M2N - flight model has been updated. An error that led to improved handling with damaged tail-unit has been fixed. Handling has become smoother. Aiming on all control modes has been improved.
  • A6M5 (whole lineup) - flight model has been updated. An error that led to improved handling with damaged tail-unit has been fixed. Handling has become smoother. Aiming on all control modes has been improved. Engine temperature mode has been made “smoother”.

1.45 Steel Generals (2014): A6M3 (zeke 32) has been tuned according to data sheet.

1.39 (2014):

  • A6M2-N – completely corrected according to datasheets
  • A6M2 — completely corrected according to datasheets
  • A6M2 mod.22 — corrected according to datasheets
  • A6M5 (all modifications) — adjusted according to datasheets

1.37 (2013)Changes in FM: Flight models partially adjusted or completely corrected according to datasheets/passports : A6M3, A6M3 mod 22, A6M3 mod 22ko

1.37 was the patch that changed the game from its original 20 tier system to the current rank system, so I dont see any reason going further back than that.

Of all those changes, the only ones that match up with what you say are the Night Visions change in 2020, but they don’t go into any detail as to what was changed so I dont know or remember how severe the buff was.
I didnt find any gun buffs, but they were probably under “type 99” instead of the aircraft themselves which I wasn’t searching for and so wouldn’t have picked them up, However I dont remember Type 99s ever being bad. Low RoF yes, but I do remember them always packing quite a punch when you did hit.

But I disagree on everything else you say, because the whole discussion here is that RIGHT NOW in their current implementation with their current flight models as they are in the game today, the performance of these aircraft is consistent with 5.0. Maybe, at an absolute stretch, 5.3. Not above.

I will quote myself from earlier in this thread where I compiled the competition they have in the BR range:

Spoiler

The biggest elephant in the room and the best comparison is the Spitfire F Mk IX - which has gone to 4.7 with these changes, but I maintain that that aircraft has an almost identical playstyle to the A6M5s, out turns everyone except the A6M5s, is generally faster pretty much everywhere, and is still 1.0 below the A6M5 Ko/Otsu.

Nerfing them how you are suggesting IMO would put them down to 4.0/4.3 depending on how severe it is.

Such non sense
“Ah yes the grind takes forever, teams are bad, bugs everywhere, hitboxes are insanely bad,map design is questionable…well at least i can use freely any br vehi- WAIT A MINUTE!Why does he ask me to do 45 nukes back to back in a jumbo?!/Why does he ask me to do 50 kills in arb in 1 single match when the players max count is 15vs15!?”
Leaves the game

It would not be funny to be honest, not sure what you take in the morning to consider a very bad vehicle “funny” on a br it doesnt belong not even close

If you played from 2013 till today you should know to not take a dogfight with a zero but use your energy properly to hit and bail

If you encounter a guy with a functioning brain at BR and youre in a zero, you will 100% die, even at 5.0/5.3 its not the best BR for the Zero to actually be “OP”
But ofc,if you wanna count the fact that any low level player will engage and give you free kills…might as well call a bad plane “op” ig

I swear im tired of “trainer” strike jets being sent to 6.7 because “They can’t do A2A well!”, can the devs actually scrape earlier versions of the meteors and P-80s and replace those trainers, hell you could finally remove the 262 A-1a from it’s eternal pit of brimstones and sulphur called 8.0 uptiers.

If im going to meet jets on my late war/ postwar props at least let me meet an actual WW2 jet more commonly, they are pretty equal on A2A and will not completely destroy early game by rushing over using their airspawn and annoy the f*ck out of me by being miserable at headons.

Incredible gameplay. You empty your magazines on one guy and he flies off. Glad it changed.

Then we can claim A6M5 is a superprop!

Does that look like a tutorial system that teaches you how to play? To me what you described looks like those garbage battlepass challenges

Tutorials will never teach people how to play the game properly, its a fact and i can make countless examples of such thing

No,youre just asking to hard limit people for no reason, find a better solution to it

I learned plenty of needed skills when doing license tests in Gran Turismo, and from tutorials in fighting games. Tutorials teach perfectly fine.

License tests…lol what a joke…
Fighting games in for what? You gotta be more precise

And no,tutorials will not solve anything, might as well make it like World Of Tanks and show people where to shoot no?Absolute joke

The most advanced air tutorial just teaches you to throttle up slowly when playing simulator and how to lock with a radar

The other tutorial are basic controls and when to press the trigger when using x-weapon system.

Boom and Zoom is never mentioned even just “try to use your superior speed” is never mentioned
