This might be a weird suggestion, but the A6M series is great for starters.
Not because they are particularly good or anything. But in a fight they are intuitive. The reflex for beginners is to dogfight. This is where the zeroes dominate.
Yes it teaches you suboptimal tactics like to always turnfight. While it relies on your opponents to make a mistake rather than your own skill, this also makes it the best to get your first kills.
This makes learning sim much less frustrating, which might be more important in the beginning, than learning to fight effectively.

It can also turn very well if you give in to the craving, but isn’t so limited in other disciplines.
Plus, OP has soviet TT at rank 4.
But in general you are right. For the first kills without much frustration a good turn fighter should be a better choice than FW190s or P51s.
Yeah sure the yak should be great as well. Any good turnfighter will do. Preferably one with a good ammo capacity to learn gunnery. I just used the A6M as it soo easily outturns everything at it’s BR

Where does one find sim discords?
I’m not in any right now, as I’ve taken a break from the game for most of this year, only getting on every now and then to play with a friend. But there is one called “WT Sim”, there’s Nimbal and Squishface’s discord and some sim-squadron discords that I know of. I can get you some invites if you add me: apolloxvii. I was gonna join back now with the fox 3 update coming anyways
