BAe Harrier II (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion

They un-fixed that? I did notice some buggy behaviour with the reticle staying put when mode swapping, but chalked it up more to the new automated behaviour.

It happened to me and got me killed once, usually in SIM I don’t stay alive enough to fire all my missiles, I always mess up something haha, so I gotta double check that tomorrow.

I usually just run 2x Aim-9M. and didnt notice earlier when I ran out, but I have yet to run out with 4x Aim-9M loadouts.

They’ve also added this somewhat annoying new mechanic where cockpit sight mode automatically swaps to match your weapon selection and vice versa. Might be worth checking that when you’ve run out of AAMs, that it isnt swapping to another sight mode

It’s interesting that the ARI 23333/1 can’t detect the type of target for air threats when it’s arguably the most advanced (fighter) RWR/DECM in game? Is it known if this is correct?

Seems to be:

Alright. interesting that it can identify friendly from enemy though! (I assume this is what AIf and PDf and AAAf is?)

@Morvran
(Sorry for the music)
Changing HUD mode does not fix it.

Hmmm… Interesting. Definetly the same bug we had when the Gr7 was new

Though I see you dont use weapon selection. Might be another factor why i’ve not encountered it yet.

Yep, tested it in test flight and replicated it.

When fired using Weapon selection, the bug doesnt occur. When fired using “fire air-to-air missile” it occurs.

Okay interesting. Done some more testing

Occurs when using “Fire air-to-air missile” but only when you have a guided weapon equipped

Tested with
2x Aim-9 (L and M) and a selection of secondary weapons (equipped x2):

Occurs:
AGM-65D (with and without pod)
Paveway II
Mk13 GBU
Paveway III

Doesnt Occur (tested with and without pod):
Mk13
540s
CRV7

Updated the OP to include the “Helmet Mounted Display” (UK Alpha Helmet , Helmet Optical Position Sensor HOPS) for the GR.9.

Ooh, that would be fun to have.

IIRC the helmet sight on Harrier GR.9 was HMSS inherited from Jaguar GR.3. A GEC Marconi/BAE-developed solution that according to Jane’s used a magnetic-based system rather than the HOPS-type optical one. There was a competing optical-based one developed by Pilkington/Thales.

Source for the HOPS was the RAA Helmet Mounted Display :: Rochester Avionic Archives Could be a few versions where used in service. With the HOPS being the earlier version.

At any rate, the Jane’s article seems to give an insight in to what the Marconi/BAE LED reticle looks like and the information it could display
symbology
Looks like there’s RWR info as well as the targeting symbology

As an FYI the friendly radars on the GR.7 RWR are not tied to the IFF in game. Just a list of NATO and Soviet radars.

So don’t trust it outside of maybe Sim.

At least most of the time, I assume Italy, France, Sweden and maybe Japan will count as “NATO” and in coming updates, maybe even Germany too. All of which can be on opposing side. Russia and China are common opponents but not always the only ones. (I wonder what Taiwan counts as ingame as well… Hmm…F-16 so probably NATO as well) I hope it gets updated to be true IFF. or at least updated SB comps otherwise its going to be semi worthless. Though does explain why I seem to defend against "friendly attacks semi often.

So thank you for the heads up
