I recently got the Japanese squadron F-5E and in sim I have a 4-1 KD with it.
It’s so easy simply because it’s harder to be seen. You can always start the fight with an advantage.
Harrier however is stupidly easy to detect.

Yep, was a while ago but was playing a Hunter, there was 1 harrier in our game, on our team, I was keeping tabs of where he was cross map ( Tunisia) with absolute ease.
Yes I was fighting a sea harrier of all things in the F-5E not even 2 days ago.
I saw the AI RWR spike from him. Normally it takes a bit of looking to find the fighter that pings you provided they are on the deck.
All I had to do was look in that general direction and I could see a thick black circle plain as day. With a jet in the middle.
After the merge it really became apparent how badly the harrier performs. It took 0 effort to gun him. Was on him at low speed like flies on stink.
Even a “bad” harrier pilot should be 50/50 with some of the best F-5E pilots in the world.
Back on this topic
The max rate turn was started at 350 knots and 6G for maximum thrust.
At the end of it while turning over 270 degrees in heading he was going 370 knots at 5.1
5.1G at 350 knots is 15-16 degrees per second in turn rate.
The average he said is 5.5-6G at 370 which is the target. It appears this is the speed the harrier 2 sustained the best rate.
Harrier Gr.7 max rate turn.
The max G on the HUD before the turn was 6.3 so it can be seen that the pilot reached 6.5G during the turn.
as the turn progresses he lists the G climbing “5 and a half, 6G” 370 knots
4.8G in game
sustained turn rate in game is only 13.9 where as the real harrier was sustaining around 17 degrees a second. 6G at 370 knots is 17 D/S, 5.6G being 16 D/S.
turn starts at 0:31 where the runway is seen behind the aircraft and at 0:52 it can be seen in front of the aircraft at the end of a 360 degree turn. It takes the Gr.7 approximately 21-22 seconds to complete the max rate turn. The turn rate is 17-16 degrees per second. This matches perfectly to the 6G at 370 knots figure.
Well that sounds like a whole 5 mins of work to fix.
Beating a dead dog comes to mind.
Impossible same with the 35% missing thrust
After more looking into the Harrier 2 FM (I mainly cared about harrier 1 before)
It suffers with the same underperforming lift as the Harrier 1. I found a non-classified source for the harrier 2 maneuvering tone with 65% lerx
Its missing approximately 1G in the low speed arena at the 20-21 degrees AOA maneuvering tone.
Reported yet or nah
About to open Localhost for the report
Gaijin has not included the Pegasus engine into their aerodynamic calculations of the harrier.
The Harrier is the only aircraft in the world where the engine can directly change the coefficient of lift.
Aero only being only the wing and body and total being the wing and body with the addition of the lift induced by the Pegasus.

Report for the massive missing lift
missing 4 degrees per second on average
missing 8 degrees per second at .2 mach
Reminds of when everyone thought the CR 2 was worst NATO tank in the world because it was bad in WT, now it has proven the opposite. Except people can see the CR2 is actually good, people still think the Harrier was a waste of money to have been worth it and was just a slow flying brick, again because of Gay people and WT
Yes it was actually so good that the United States marine corps wanted to cancel the hornet and only fund the AV-8B.
They even conducted a massive trial F-18 vs AV-8B and the harrier 2 out classed the hornet in every single category except offensive counter air.
The only reason they said it was a worse fighter was because it lacked radar and sparrows however in a “dogfight” it could more than hold its own.
Didn’t even know that, seeing how the Hornet “won”, I think the Navy bullied them into using it
And seeing how much cheaper per aircraft it is, the saved money from the Harrier can be used to upgrade them to use Sparrows and a possible future missile (wink wink AMRAAM)
It didn’t win congress wanted to scrap the AV-8B completely.
They felt it was a VSTOL gimmick it won by being made.
Yes it was actually the Italians who gave us the radar attack they use the harrier a lot more as a fighter. They are very good at this, many reports of them taking out F-16s and such.
Here’s a training sortie 2 super E vs 1 AV-8B at 11 seconds the AV-8B merges with the super E leader and has reveres the turn and it about to shoot the super E in about 8 seconds. While at 16,000 feet.
Did they ever accept the controllability report?
I think it has to do with the stability margins on the harrier 2 in game it’s terrible to fly in manual control flicks everywhere.
Might be part of the mouse aim issues
They did
But no change
It took 6 months for them to accept it. Gotta give them at least 3 years to look at said accepted report
