First of all, this text is written in translation by Deeple from Japanese, so it may be somewhat difficult to understand. My apologies.
There are several ways to avoid ARH missiles in this game.
Fly at an angle of 90 degrees to the radar wave of the missile to mislead the missile.
Fly below 60m and avoid the missile by multi-path.
Evade the missile until it runs out of energy.
In the real world, however, the first is less effective and the second does not work at all.
In “warthunder,” the effects of 1 and 2 are overwhelmingly exaggerated. And these are the root of all the problems that exist in ARB 13.7.
This simplified system of welcoming newcomers has led to an influx of players with little or no ARB experience, which has greatly reduced the quality of ARB 13.7.
It also requires a fighting style that is far removed from realistic fighting. Even if you attack from a definite vantage point, you may be evaded by multi-passing and suffer unreasonable retribution. This is one of the factors that ruin the strategic nature of ARB 13.7.
The most problematic aspect is that 13.7 also enforces this, even though if you want to engage missiles, you can go to BR zones where there is no monopulse system or where the radar is mainly less resistant to
Of course I don’t believe that missiles should be enhanced with the current joke of 16vs16, and I understand that it puts the less capable aircraft at a greater disadvantage, but it is not completely unbeatable. At the moment it is rare that those other aircraft are matched in 13.7 matches, and that will improve more when the focus is on small group matches.
And what I find most questionable in the current environment is that in many cases, whether a missile hits or not depends not on the attacking player but on the evasion of the attacked player. In the current environment, where evading missiles is so easy that even a monkey can do it, there are few situations where a kill can be reliably obtained, no matter how well you stand your ground. As for notching resistance, it does not need to be enhanced to the point where it is realistic, but at least the current beginner welcome system is too much.
It goes without saying that the BR should be revised at the same time.
I think current gameplay is fine and trying to make it more realistic would only hinder gameplay. (unless for sim)
ARB is not realistic anyway and these changes from reality help make it playable in a 16v16 chaotic enviroment. It would also just make some nations unplayable if they couldn’t use multipathing or if notching was far harder…
What you miss is that is the point. Is it unrealistic? Yeah, i’ll freely admit that. However, it is also necessary.
Aircraft at 13.7 dont just face their equals, and do not just face aircraft that can match up to them. Instead, they face both contemporaries and aircraft that lack ARHs, such as the F-16A or F-20. I dont really see how they could ever justify making these aircraft unusable - in an uptier you generally at least have a fighting chance, and here you would not.
At the end of the day WT is a arcade game meant to be played for fun, and being unable to do anything against a AMRAAM or MICA is not fun.
I also dont really want to be facing spamraams in my JA37D with no way to counter or defeat them, which I think is pretty reasonable, y’now?
I don’t think they’re pandering to new players, I think Warthunder, even in RB/Sim is still a relatively arcadeish game, and things like ease of Multipathing exists for the same reason the instructor does. It’s just part of this games accessibility.
I quite enjoy the high altitude, BVR notch & crank gameplay, so nerfing multipath would only benefit me, but it would also make the game exponentially less fun for a lot of players and a lot of aircraft if nowhere was safe.
True sims exist for that kind of ultimate punishing, no room for error gameplay. WT is more casual. They’ve already ‘nerfed’ multipath quite a lot from when it’s used to be legitimately obnoxious, but now, it’s kinda fine imo.
ARH’s could be a lot more brutal ingame, but I’m not sure if I want that for the same reason I don’t really want things like ASRAAM / IRIS-T / Python-5 etc. 16v16 would become unbearable if basically every missile was a death sentence.
Yeah so welcoming to new players with level 20 at 13.0 BR yet they still get annihilate
High tier shouldn’t even be welcoming to newbie.
Gaijin made ARH too stupid for their sake which they shouldn’t.
The issue with making ARH/IR missiles even better is that WT isn’t suited for it, and it would lead to a massive drop in the quality of gameplay. WT is also too compressed to allow for it. What is a Mig-29, F-20, F-16A, or any other plane with SARH missiles at best supposed to do against nearly undodgeable ARH missiles? Even the best SARH missiles, like the R-27ER still struggle at top tier due to them still being SARH missiles.
Of course I don’t believe that missiles should be enhanced with the current joke of 16vs16, and I understand that it puts the less capable aircraft at a greater disadvantage, but it is not completely unbeatable.
