In 2018 Jan 19 War thunder offical twitter/x account posted a joke about nintendo switch. After that on 2019 March 2 they said on twitter/x they were ‘‘working on it’’ but what happend? In the post it was said it was an intresting platform. Now its been 5 years since that post and even today some people still ask on that post ‘‘is it ready yet?’’. If something like steam deck, ps portal and ps vita can run war thunder then how couldn’t nintendo switch run that it has pretty much the minimal standards, the Switch having maximum resulution for 720p (and trough via HDMI in TV mode 1080p)
having 4gb of ram and the new OLED version has 64gb of internal memory?(I might also be wrong about the ps vita and the ps portal and I know the steam deck has better performance) Maybe everyone are waiting for the Switch 2? I wanted to make this post since I see alot of Switch players waiting but nobody really talking about it here.
Lol, didn’t realize they said they were doing that. Really hope they do make it those! However seeing as it took them 10(?) years to make WT mobile, then i think it’ll take awhile for it to come to switch…
How the hell are they going to get war thunder running on something with 3.7GB of available ram? I have 128GB of ram and a NASA PC yet this game runs like ass half the time still, if they cant optimise for X86 they arent going to be able to optimise for a sluggish ARM system
I run 80+ fps on max graphics across modes with a i7 + 2060 laptop. Maybe update driver or something ig
Have you seen the “hacked nintendo” video where the guy hacked his nintendonswitch and played the game with 81 fps thanks to linux? Yes the resolution was 480p but I still think it would be some way possible just maybe not be possible to play on tv.
Also the links to the hacked nintendo switch. In the comments u can find the vid

holy crap thats insane. I doubt gaijin would be able to get it to run even on whatever takes over from the switch though.
everything is up to date, the game is just noticeably unoptimised, similar looking games gets in excess of five hundred frames per second when WT gets an average of 160-250
Most monitors refresh rate is around or below that fps so does it really matter?
when you dont use Vsync and can see the frame difference between this game and a significantly more taxing game like forza horizon 4&5 or raytraced stuff like Doom Eternal you notice how stark the lower fps is when wt is far less taxing, I can see it when I have afterburner open on my second monitor, my PC isn’t being used much at all so its the software just being slow as hell
Seeing as my Nintendo Switch can barely run Legend of Zelda I don’t think it will cope with War Thunder very well.
Of course games can be ported over, but usually third party games run in a severely low resolution, think Wolfenstein 2 which can play on the switch in 480p but it’s barely hitting 30fps and half the textures are deleted.
Cracked switch is probably a different story but it’s incredibly difficult to do, especially if your model is manufactured past a certain date because you must solder an additional crack chip onto the motherboard.
If wt already ran on a hacked switch with 480p on 81 fps then I think it can run the normal game at 720p with maybe 40-50fps
I mean, with the graphics system they have, the switch could run it at 30-60 fps on ULQ.
It’s just Nintendo isn’t the greatest with collaboration, and are very protective of everything.
Hacked switches will have an overclock, usually regular switches have an underclocked chip from the factory for “heating issues, yada yada”
So I reckon it could run at 30fps on 480p, it barely handles the newest Pokémon at 720p. War thunder barely runs 60fps (ground forces) on my laptop which is way more powerful than a switch and causes a lot of heating.
However, the Switch does support cloud streaming (done with Hitman) which is probably a better solution if they were to port it over that way, as long as you have good internet the game will run okay-ish and you’ll actually be able to see things at a distance.
lol and there were people giving the guy who was having trouble shooting a tank crap about his resolution…
xD
oh god please no I don’t think the switch can even handle the game at a decent quality ( I also think the game takes upon too much space without an sd card so it probably not)
As someone who has a switch, I can confirm they heat up very quickly and the cooling blows out very hot air, not enough to burn you but enough to be uncomfortable
Do you have the OLED version I also own a Switch but I have a OLED one and it has enough room to download the console version of the game? Also memory cards for 128gb isn’t that expensive for 18 euros on the nintendo website.
free new poeple to kill:)
Heres the reddit he got linux on the switch and played air rb on there with 81 fps https://www.reddit.com/r/Warthunder/s/nJxwqbfpt6
Video he made
video: https://streamable.com/cna6ig
You can send that video ten times it doesn’t change that it looks like it’s being played on a Casio watch. Developers do not send a game off to play when it looks this bad 😐.
Furthermore that’s only air rb. GF wouldn’t run at all and you’d see nobody xD. They can’t just port one mode over.
