Are the type 74 e and f the worst 9.0 mbts or what?

Altho there is a passed suggestion for a type 74 g without it’s side skirts

When comparing tanks, I’ll always rank one with assymetric torsion bars lower than one with a symmetrical suspension. This is why I play the Challenged 2 but won’t touch the leopards ever.

The Type 74s really suffered from the last decompression where they moved up with their friends as they received a gnarly nerf to their mobility, but simultaneously their firepower prevents them from ever going down. Acceleration is cool and all, but it doesn’t mean much when you cap out at 53km/h…

As far as the G goes, it doesn’t have an upgraded powerpack, it’s the exact same tank but with thermals and a LWS, you’re not missing much.

I thought the G has better reverse gear? Regardless a weird issue i noticed about the type 74s is they seem to accelerate and steer weird when you tilt the tank forward using suspension controls, why is that?

Actually it does get an extra reverse for an okay -16.7. The big issue is that 9.3 to get a decent reverse, bad thermals, and a LWS is very expensive when you still end up at the same BR as the Type 16 FPS that trades Type 93 for DM23 and being massively superior in every other way.

I haven’t noticed anything specific to the Type 74, to me all vehicles with hydropneumatic suspensions feel like driving a cistern sloshing. You’ll turn and then have the weight follow you ever so slightly offbeat. It’s not helped by their apparent lack of stiffness.
As far as driving with the front lowered, it could be something as simple as hitting the terrain with the hull, and racking speed penalties for it. Also pay attention if it always does it, or only on certain maps, some terrains seem to have bugged interaction with vehicles.

This is not a bad MBT, it’s just a redundant one. Symptom of USSR being absolutely stacked at that BR.

Chinese TTS takes the title, obviously. Weak armour, weak shell, meh mobility, just nothing going for it. However, China has the best 9.0 lineup in the game, so don’t feel too bad for them.

Actually a worthwhile MBT when facing AFT09/ZT3A2/any other missile slinger. Good to have in your lineup for those situations. Saying that, I don’t use it, but in theory. My USSR 9.0 is about 279/BMP3.

upon further inspection, while the type 74s have their issues, I do not get why the chinese tts is 9.0 to begin with, the us tts is at the same br and is objectively better, same base tank with better ammo and an era armor package. How is this the least bit balanced

can’t be 8.7 or US would complain about an M60 TTS being the same BR as the RISE P

Type 74 (E), Type 74 (F) are by far one of the most effective vehicles at its battle rating. Surely you’re not going to go through a T-72 like a butter but these vehicles’ playstyle require a much more slower aproach. Type 93 APDS-FS is one of the best, if not the best at said battle rating, peak point & click gameplay. Although with this much firepower, mobility is the main drawback.

While these vehicles are not certainly the best, Type 87 RCV and Type 89 serve just perfectly as support vehicles to counterweight the flaws. In air, Alpha Jet also offer much more in rather agile platform with effective weapons. Battle rating 9.0 in Japan in ground is one of the best in-game in my opinion, although you’ll be easily outperformed by USSR battle rating 9.3 and China battle rating 9.3 with much more armored vehicles.

The mobility nerfs, slow everything else (turret speed, neutral steering speed, vertical guidance) as well as poor map design which essentially makes the suspension a gimmick, makes its weakly armored yet sluggish body not ideal for ots primarily role as an ambush tank where you peak, fire, then reverse. Even with a worse round, while I still can play the tank alroght, I can be more effective in a leopard a1a1 doing the same job with dm23.

As I said this vehicle require a slower aproach, engage at long distances, while the armor is somewhat on par of an Leopard 1, it’s relatively better, better values and angles. Type 87 RCV and Type 89 will give you enough support to counterweight the flaws.

Knowing these problems and that most maps require close range engagements I prefer using the Type 89 as my main vehicle and the Type 74 (E) as last option on my line-up if I’m in the mood of playing a full line-up.

Type 89 offer enough mobility, firepower and versatility for urban and close range maps in War Thunder something that the Type 74 won’t offer, but obviously you’re more vulnerable in this vehicle (Type 89) than in the Type 74.

I haven’t used Type89, but I find that IFVs often survive more punishment than MBTs around those BR. For example, China 9.0 - WMA, PTL02, AFT09, they will eat APFSDS rounds and nothing will happen, there is so much space inside them, and people don’t bother loading HEATFS or HE a lot of the time. Meanwhile the actual armoured MBTs will die quickly once penned (especially for the cramped small Soviet MBTs), and basically everything can pen them anyway at that BR, apart from maybe some autocannons at the right angle.

Example with AFT09:

Honestly, with the current meta in War Thunder, I believe MBTs at 9.0-9.3 are more situational than the IFV, missile slingers. I know for me in 279, I worry more about Type89 than I do the Type74.

9.3 Japan is IMO the best 9.3 lineup in the game

Laser range finders, DM33 equivalent round, fully stabilized guns.
They’re among the best 9.0s in the game.
They share the same BR as the far worse T-55AM1. XD

@TenPoundsOfSalt @WalletWorrier @TheDudesRug
T-62M-1 is great, it’s the only good 9.0 MBT Soviets have.
The rest have horrifically 8.3 APFSDS rounds at 9.0.
Cause only Finland put a better round in the T-55.

Trust me, you’re not going to change his mind or stance.

i kind of agree the type 74 e and g are overtired, at war thunders current state its best to move those type of tanks down. gaijin just needs to get rid of br compression

They definitely won’t move the g down at least not without removing or tweaking type 93 apfsds

I hate them. Western gun with Soviet gun handling, having awful optics unlike the former and no armour like the latter. Not faster than an OF-40 or Leo but have to dick around with suspension to get your -10°.

Why would he need to? It’s his opinion. I think USSR’s 9.3 crushes Japan’s 9.3, especially if you have both BMD4s, but I’m not going to debate him on that because that’s my opinion and that is his. France and Germany are also stacked at 9.3.

How are among the best 9.0s in the game over-BR’d?
By your post you have to think T-55AM1 is 8.3 as they’re inferior to the Type 74E/G.

I love messing with the suspension especially on maps like Maginot line
