Are the type 74 e and f the worst 9.0 mbts or what?

Having played the leopard 1s, some of the pattons, the kpz 70, t55, t72, and the centurions of the 8.7-9.3 BR range, I have to ask how are the type 74s not the worst mbts of that br range? My impressions of them so far is they arent as unplayable as the stb-2 and type 74c but their only difference is ammo selection. They are slow, drive like a tugboat, poorly armored, have horrible turret traverse and elevation rates, horrible reverse speed, and the same 105mm reload rate as all other 105mm mbts which are arguably better. To me they seem like a crappier version of the leopard 1 with none of the benefits. Having played both the type 74 e and f for more than a week, I fail to see what redeeming qualities they have. So, are there any redeeming qualities to these tanks? I think they are better suited at 8.7. I havent gone to the french tech tree, so I cant say too much about that, but from what I gather their mbts at that brt range at least have good reverse speed

The T-62M-1 takes that title, but only marginally so.
As far as redeeming qualities go, Type 93 is still one of the best shells in the range, and the hydropneumatic suspension compensate the -6° well enough.
Once you factor in the various 9.3s, it falls off a cliff, even the G with it’s upgrades.

are we even playing the same tank? i would take a 74 over a leo1 any day.

no, i find myself out accelerating leo1s. id say the reverse is bad though(unless its a G)

turret traverse is average. use your pneumatic suspension

its the same as its counterparts

in general the type 74 is about as good as the of-40 and leo 1, but with there slight differences that make each one accel at something different like:
type 74 - sniping/ defense
of-40- CQC
leopard 1- a little bit between the two

T-55AM/AMD, T-62M, Leopard A1A1, Chinese TTS

are saying these are bad? i really dont know but my friend has the t55 amd and loves it, soooooo idk

when was the last time you played a type 74?

idk, like a month ago

i mean to be fair, I’ve always thought the type 74, leo 1 and of-40 should be 9.0 anyways (the 9.3 once)

here are my findings: using a stopwatch and removing engine and transmission from leopard A1A1 because i dont have that for my type 74s in test track, rotating 360 takes 8.5 seconds roughly, reaches full speed of 65 kmh at roughly 11.5 seconds.
Same 360 time for type 74 e is 9.5 seconds and it reaches full speed of 60 kmh in roughly 9.5 secs. Even then leopard is basically the same with a faster turret rotation and reverse speed. Suspension is a gimmick, I do use it extensively but it only grnats you two extra degrees. It is a bad sniper compared to the leopard 1s because most maps are relatively flat and terrible reverse speed means it takes very long to retreat into cover after firing

I suppose it isnt great either, seems to have longer reload, and is slower but it does seem to have better protection and a better round.

The Chinese TTS is definitely the worst 9.0. Its like the regular TTS but only gets M735 and has no ERA at the same BR.

Oh then that is truly awful. Why are the m735 so bad, thought they said theyd fix it like a year ago. I have type 93 on my type 74 e but not my f yet and the differences are very noticeable postpen wise

im pretty sure its between -5 or -7 degrees of extra depression

I argue the type 74 g is superior to the Leo 1a5 and of-40, but that isn’t displayed well, because gaijin is spamming CQC maps

my bad was comparing the difference in depression to the leopard 1

But those tanks in general are outclassed by tanks like t72 and those MBT protos

Im sure the g version is better due to the better engine but it locked behind a paywall

Classic gaijin blunder

Compeltely stupid and unjustifiable btw cause you cant have a full 9.3 lineup without paying money
