Are bombers currently unplayable in Air RB? Or am I doing something wrong.
I am losing my patience about bombers. I’ve spent hundreds of hours grinding bombers tech trees because I really like them, and I’ve been experiencing several nations.
No matter which nation I try, they all suck and feel heavily unbalanced. All that keeps happening is someone climbing up to bomber altitude and killing me before I can even bomb. No matter which plane I’m against, I get one shot from basically any fighter plane. And it’s even worse in planes like the Tu-4 which get put against fighter jets and you get killed from an Air-to-air missile 1km away while I’m still using propellers and do not have flares.
This is really frustrating honestly, it feels like Bomber planes do not belong at all in the realistic or arcade air battles, they cannot do anything aside dying and destroying a single base.
The “best” usecase for them is deploying them in a Ground-RB match and flying high enough for SPAA to struggle hitting you.
This is ass, I wish I never spent all that time grinding bombers from several nations!
Imho you should have checked the wt forum way earlier…
If you like bomber game play: There are imho just 3 TT bombers somehow able to perforn:
- Ju 88 A-1 at 2.0
- B-18 B at 4.0
- G8N1 at 6.7
The B7A2s are able to kill a single base with the 10x60 kg payload too.

Also the He-111 H-3 at 2.0, too. I can wipe all 3 bases and the runway on my own with the incendiary bombs.
Thank you for the feedback. I didn’t know this was the current general state of the game. I do hope that changes to give more value to Long Range Bombers will be made
What this boils down to in the most fundamental sense is simple - bombers are not needed to win any Air RB match currently. Most matches are won by Air-2-Air team deathmatch, which bombers are not built to be good at, or really even participate in at all. The same is true to a lesser extent for attackers.
Fighters do not need to care what becomes of either attackers or bombers to easily win matches - as long as this remains the case there is no incentive for Gaijin to improve the situation.
That’s only one side. The other is the ticket system. You need no bomber, not even an attacker to win on tickets. Every fighter can bleed more tickets than any bomber. The only exception are maps winnable by destroying the airfield. But in this case you need enough bombers or a bomber can do it on his own.

I like the ticket system in most respects - the issue in my mind is the current seemingly arbitrary values of each target and the auto-win ticket bleeds.
Each objective should be capable of bleeding out no more than 50% of the ticket bar. This forces more than just the TDM portion to actually be done every game. Then if nothing else, PvE-centric planes are now practically able to contribute, without actually taking anything away from the fighters. If anything the fighters gain the ability basically always finish their dogfights before game ends.
I have no problem with going in my fighter, winning the dogfight phase, and actually having a reason to go grab my ordinance afterwards.
I think they shall just spawn the goddamn bomber at max attitude and max speed…
Which bombers? As with all class of planes in the game, there are some that are weak and strong. What country are you playing?
I restrict my use of bombers to GRB. This is from today:
In ARB? nah. Especially higher BRs. I’d rather be in the fighter taking them down.
pretty much, there is a long list of issues from vehicle modeling to gamemode design. But at its core… Gaijin just doesnt like any form of ground attacker (from Interwar Bomber all the way up to modern interdictor) . Its a real shame
Now that more maps seem to have air spawns, Bombers, Strikers, and Interceptors aren’t as good.
If you really want to space bar a base for SL, get the Ju-288.
