I miss lining up on the runway, someone instantly plows into the guy in front, and then the Russians start doing Cobras on takeoff. Crash. Another one tries it. Crash. Then another one because clearly the first two weren’t enough.
And then the A-10 finally lifts off and immediately starts teamkilling half the lobby because, why not?
Meanwhile there’s a Eurofighter doing completely illegal maneuvers right after takeoff, and you’ve got the whole team crashing before even flying.
I know airfield spawns still exist in some tiers, but at top tier they’re gone now, and honestly? I miss it. Air spawns are efficient but runway starts had like, a personality. Dumb and very War Thundery kinda.
On smaller maps, make airfield spawns mandatory so matches don’t instantly turn into BVR chaos.
On big maps, keep air spawns so people can get into the fight faster.
Feels like a fair compromise and keeps both the vibes and the pacing.
Sure, I like taking off, but it’s a bit annoying in planes with slow acceleration that would have to reach the battlefield last. I’m ok with it being limited to the lower to mid tiers
In my typhoon its just an extra 45 seconds to a minute to get up to alt and another 30 or so seconds after that to get up to speed. So an extra 1:30 added to the game time for the sake of having to do a take off. I’m not really that fussed if I need to do this or not, but it does waste some fuel and more importantly time without any meaningful gameplay gain.
Also the airspawn means people can spawn across a wider front, rather than a single point which is really dumb, even at lower BRs and in theory further away, though is last point is rarely actually done for some stupid reason…
At lower BRs it does help offset some of the lower performance aircraft, who struggle with the early climb, which means that a few don’t dominate just because they have better climb rates. Though there is an argument that this then destroys their advantage…
Overall, I’m not that fussed either way. If AF spawns do return though, they need to split the team to spawn on at least 2 Afs to spread the battle over a wider front.
