I recently noticed that in GRB, the lock-on range of infrared missiles has greatly increased regardless of the environment. For example, I used to think that a Stinger couldn’t lock onto a helicopter unless it got within at least 3 km, but now it can lock on from 4.5 km away. What’s more, it can do the same even against stealth helicopters like the RAH-66. In my last match, I was able to use the Mistral missile on the Tiger helicopter to lock onto and shoot down an enemy helicopter from over 4 km away, and I even managed to lock onto a front-facing aircraft more than 8 km away using the Stinger. Is this a bug?

Overperforming missile seekers overperforming even more, I sure hope Gajin isn’t gonna wait 4 years to fix this.
Sounds like a bug but realistically WT stingers should be able to lock helos beyond 4km anyway

Good to see IR SAMs working more consistently. If we ever want to see the entire CAS debate given the Old Yeller treatment, then ground-to-air counters need to not just work, but be frankly as easy to use or easier to use than the CAS they’re killing.
Not a bug.
Using SPAA is 10x easier than using CAS.

That’s true, but I think it’s strange that the RAH-66 can be locked on at the same distance as other helicopters, since they’re supposed to be designed to be stealthy against infrared as well.
May you show me where to get such Stingers? As mine only lock on helis at like 1.2-2.0 km range based on the environment
I checked with a friend, and it turns out you can lock onto an RAH-66 from 3.6 km in front with a Stinger K-type, even under cloudy skies.
Just now my TC-1L locked a Mi-28A from front aspect, at 3.67 kilometres. And actually hit. It’s absolutely bonkers, usually a lock would only be possible from ~1.5km.

I couldn’t believe my luck so I launched all 4 of my missiles, 2 in front aspect and then 2 rear aspect as he tried to flee. First one got his gunner and nothing else, second one lost track halfway or got flared, third one hit and destroyed the heli, and 4th missile launched at considerable range also hit.
