Hello Tank Only People (henceforth referred to as TOPs) I have seen your many threads, and even participated in some of them. There has been much animosity between you and those of us who like GRB the way it is, but this animosity gets us no where. As such I have come up with a solution, and I’d like to present it for discussion and feedback.
TOPs have been asking Gaijin for a Tank Only version of GRB (TOGRB) for multiple years, to no avail. Threads continue to appear but the desired TOGRB game mode does not.
My solution for you is to gather all of the TOPs into an organized community, then use that community to operate and populate a series of TO Custom Lobbies via War Thunder’s existing Custom Lobby system.
While this may not be the official TOGRB mode you want, it is better than nothing and would scratch your itch for TO combat.
Furthermore if you make these lobbies and demonstrate that they are routinely populated by players I believe it would send a much stronger message to Gaijin than continuing to post threads ever could.
I have put forth this idea several times over multiple threads both recently and in the past, but I never get any follow up discussion on it or even a good reason not to do it. So now it has it’s own thread.
I am extending an olive branch of peace between CAS players and TO players, please try to be respectful and serious in the replies. If you think this is a dumb idea, explain why and we can workshop it into a better one. Thanks.

My problem is that custom games don’t give rp/SL and the grind is slow enough as it is.

I get that, and I know it’s suboptimal, but I would still think having the option to play Tank Only is worth not getting any rp/SL for however many matches you play it, and I would imagine there are some TOPs who have all of the vehicles and upgrades they want and would play Tank Only for the fun of it alone.
As an upside, last I checked custom games don’t incur repair costs either, so while you wouldn’t be making SL, you also wouldn’t be losing SL.

Honestly, this is one of the worst ideas I’ve seen in a while.
WT is a grinding game and progression is pretty much the driving force for players and guess what, custom games don’t give any RP/SL, so you’re pretty much stuck where you’re at when playing that.
Anything that halts your progression is out of the question from the get go.

Is it not worth that sacrifice of progression if it gives you the best chance of obtaining an actual Tank Only mode from Gaijin?
Threads on the forum have been proven to be easy to ignore, an organized community with populated custom game servers is a lot harder to ignore.

People shouldn’t be sacrificing such a key aspect of the game for something as simple to implement as TO.
Says who ?
Custom servers are far away from the eyes of the average player and can be ignored as easily.

As it stands now you have no TO at all, custom lobbies would at least let you play some TO. It isn’t about what people should or shouldn’t have to do, its about what they can and can’t do. You can’t force Gaijin to make TO, but you can make custom lobbies to demonstrate tangible interest.
Threads on the forum alone are just words. If you back up those words with actions they have more weight.
It goes from “we want Tank Only” to “we want Tank Only, and we have 5 custom lobbies that are fully populated every day to show interest in it.”
Answer for TO was already said. This thread is kinda pointless since all they want is TO, not any other solution regardless how well or bad it is.

As I said, getting no progression from doing something is immediately out of the question.

That’s like many people have a grudge against vehicle(s) being too OP for their BR, so they make custom lobbies to demonstrate this.
Hey guys, let’s rally up in custom battles where you can’t play [insert OP vehicle], play for weeks or months and forfeit all progression just so we can hope Gaijin does something.
Having 5 lobbies filled in a game where there’re thousands of battles each day doesn’t really show anything to Gaijin to be honest.

Yes because TO is the best solution for both sides and their issues.
We have modern cuz it stuff makes money.
Just question, if there were dedicated TO lobbies, would you play em?
Continuing to make threads on the forum is getting you no progression towards a TO mode, Custom Lobbies might.
I’d say people who want a whole new game mode are different from those who don’t like one vehicle. There are established channels to get vehicles changed, but not for getting a new game mode added.
5 was just an example number, depending on how many TOPs you can organize it could easily be many many more.
What about for TOPs who have already unlocked and spaded all the tanks they care about? At a certain point one would think the prospect of playing the game the way you want to play it is more alluring than meaningless progression towards vehicles you don’t plan to play.
Progression in terms of RP/SL…
You have established channels to create new suggestions, which include new game modes and such.
Also, certain OP vehicles can ruin whole tiers, so fixing things as fast as possible should be the priority, right ?
Even if it was 50 it would be just a drop in the ocean.
Doing this immediately cuts the available player base by a lot, so the amount of lobbies would be drastically lower, thus could be handwaved as unimportant.
Kinda hard to feel sorry for you when you’re given the tools to fix your problem, but refuse to use them.

They aren’t mad because they can’t play how they want, they’re mad because they can’t force other people to play how they want. The game has been air+ground combined for years now and despite knowing this still complain about it.
Literally buying raisin bran cereal for 5+ years and complaining about the raisins instead of buying different cereal. They don’t’ want to stop eating raisin bran, they want to take raisins out of raisin bran.
