All ARH missles get chaffed way to easily especially at closer ranges

My only complaint is that ARH missiles simply stop maneuvering when the target enters a notch. Instead of continuing toward projected intercept point via IOG, the missiles just stop turning and fly straight into the void, never to be seen again. The super generous notch gates are fine mostly, but the fact that IOG and Datalink seem to stop working after your missile goes pitbull is very much not fine.

It does actually, datalink provides better targetting data since the radar in the F-16 is more powerful than the one in the amraam

It literally doesn’t, unless you have your radar set to TWS the entire time as that’s where the datalink channels gets the mid course updates from if the ARH missile loses lock for a brief moment via its onboard radar. You can see this happen as it does if you try one of those long range BVR shots and your target starts to notch/go cold.

The plane’s radar doesn’t have priority over the missile’s own radar…

Does DL even work at all, in any radar mode, after the missile goes pitbull?

tbh I assumed he was in TWS. didnt watch the clip, my bad

It does, there’s the popular “TWS trick” that Russia mains do with the R-27ER to give you a false sense of security only to surprise you with a flying rod coming in at Mach 2 from 60 km away.

Then there are the ARH missiles which require mid course updates during flight (especially if the target starts to defend). Most of the time they will only require some guidance for a few seconds after losing lock. They are still susceptible to chaff and defensive manoeuvres though.

Oh I know DL works with the R-27’s cause I’ve used them on the F-14A IRIAF, I was more asking if it worked on ARH missiles after the have gone pitbull, since they seem to go stupid if the lock is broken after the missiles radar is turned on.

He is notching properly, wdym?

This is why I love planes with a HMS that can lock from a 90 degree side aspect.

Combined with a misisle like the R77 or R-Darter that have 50G overload, you can lock and launch at a plane while you are in the notch, they just fly into a misisle and die.

The J-10 is great for this.
