Air sim got an update! Capping is now for suckers :(

Now if you get on the cap at the last moment you get only a few points instead of 200.

Thanks Gaijin… fantastic change!

I assume the way it works is the same way we have it in Ground Battles. This will further disincentivize people from doing anything PvP related, which is already a big issue in Air SB because of the way the useful action mechanic. Don’t get me wrong, PvE is an important part of the Air SB ecosystem, but the capture points are the only objective in Air sim that’s entirely PvP oriented. It brings every fighter in the lobby to a single square on the map because people see it as worth assisting capturing, and by attempting to do so they can be forced into a PvP situation. People will start ignoring capture points just like they already ignore bomber and strike AI aircraft at higher tiers because of the minuscule rewards.
If the only way to get a substantial amount of score from capturing a point is by spending 5 minutes flying in a circle all by yourself, if capturing a point with your teammates means spitting the reward between multiple players - less people will feel persuaded to capture points.

Exactly, and that leads to one enemy pilot being able to block you and then both of you get nothing for sometimes 10-15 minutes of duking it out in the circle. Also no points for a 90% capture after decapping due to the timer running out, great work Gaijin.

As for AI skills, nailed 3 F3D Skynights with the Narwhale (262 A-1/U4) today…rewards 7k SL. Spawning that aircraft already costs more, and those kills were after fighting an Ouragan with that aircraft earlier and surviving by the skin of my teeth, because the team helped me.

The only time you have fun in this is when you and your team ignore the economy, which in SB is absolutely set up to the detriment of team play.

I just capped a point in a quiet game, which gave me 439 points. Checking the score before and after showed that someone else joined the cap and got 219 points. So 658 points, or presumably 660 points since Gaijin decided to ‘make it fair’ by adding 10%, and splitting it between players based on time.

What this means in reality is that capping is almost never worth it now. Why would I circle with low fuel running a high risk of being unable to defend myself for no points. 600 points is a player kill, which are EASY to get.

Wait for the enemy to start capping so you know where they are, kill them and leave.

Capping is now for suckers.
