Almost like most of the FMs have specific dialogue saying do not invert or other such warnings. Yes, if you get a helicopter going fast enough you can throw it around pretty squirrely. But you arent going to be pulling a falling leaf from a standstill and recovering with less than 100m altitude.
Except that this should have no effect radars like the F-15s. It is not using CW to guide the 7M. But either way, the rotors radar returns should provide that source. The airframe is “stationary” but the giant spinning blades above it provide plenty of return.
I’d love to see helicopters in sim ec mode, that’s the most immersive and adventurous gamemode.
Of course some changes would have to be implemented for it to make sense but that’s what the developers are for, aren’t they? So don’t be discouraged.
New heli-specific missions could be added, you would still need to avoid SPAA, AI/Player aircraft and other helicopters so they won’t be OP and would be nice addition to the sim community.
With the latest update and the lowering of the multipathing limit, I no longer see anything preventing the arrival of helicopters in simulated airplane mode. In addition, a good number of them received detailed cockpits and had flight and damage models readjusted.
The have not received damage model adjustments. And they are still essentially invisible to PD radars while hovering. Both of these must be corrected before they would be acceptable to add to Air Sim
I agree with @warthogboy09 above. War Thunder SB is not ready for helicopter’s. In addition to still not recieveing damage model adjustments and being almost invisible to radars, they also need to add better airfield defense above 12.3 (like Pantsir-S1’s) as most if not all modern heli’s have pretty good air to air defense and offense capabilities, so it would help mitigate hovering near an airfield for easy kills. I havent tested it but rotary physics are still crap last time I checked. And lastly a BR change for certian heli’s to somewhat match the era they are in like Vietnam rotary with Vietnam fixed wing and modern with modern… We’re still far off from this.
Not to mention Gaijin has shown no interest in updating sim at all in years
for speed it’s quite the opposite. the fact that you are slow while the planes go much faster makes the approach very complicated and requires the pilot of the plane to go almost to stall speed to make his shot + your speed is also your advantage, you can make rapid maneuvers to aim at a plane
+1 Something else that would be great to add is working MFD screens in the cockpits for guided weapons targeting. Having to use the dedicated Gunner View and having to be completely blind to your surroundings is pretty bad for planes let alone helicopters.
My experiences in Sim with the AV8 tell me otherwise, controlling a VTOL vehicle is very hard while you, unable to be locked by radar missiles, become literal food for IR missiles and you will never be faster than a burst of gatling gun fire to get out of the way.
You can’t compare a Harrier in VTOL and a helicopter, the helicopter is really made to fly this way and is way easier to control. For the IR missiles, most heli have a MAW so it isn’t really an issue. Of course the gun pass will kill you but try to aim at a slow target and you will see how hard it is
You didn’t want to seem like one, and yet you definitely pulled it off.
You missed the entire point of my reply. I said exactly why I don’t have much time in RB/Sim in helicopters. Because I don’t want to fly in tank deathmatch mode.
I bought my premiums early because initially there was a fun little helicopter vs helicopter mode that was basically the arcade version of PVP EC and everyone expected they’d add lots of content for us to play them with. Guess what, they didn’t. They actually took that content away instead of adding more.
As is, helicopters are a goofy forgotten addon to ground. That’s it.
If I want to fly helicopters, other than to earn easy SL in PVE, I play DCS because there’s objectives/goals. I’d love to fly them in WT too.
