Idk if we’re playing different games or what, but when I use the R-77-1 at Mach 1.2 at 3,000 m, it barely reaches 20 km.
the missile itself has about the same range as the 120c5, the platform its being launched from matters a lot when determining how far itll go

if you launch an r77-1 from a su30 at mach 1.2 then of course it wont go as far as the 120c5 launched from an f15e at mach 1.7, the su30sm2 is going to fix the speed issue that the original sm had, like ive said

Well, I never had any problem getting a 20 km kill with the AMRAAM while sitting on the deck. Dunno, let’s see how it goes with the SM-2.

the 77-1 also loses more speed in turns, which can make it seem like it has less range, but for a straight flying target itll be basically identical to the 120c5

I couldn’t give half a shit less about what the X-ray view says, up until this morning it had a supposed 120km range.
R-77M really isnt that good. I like what OP is thinking, but we in reality need more to be on par with the OP AIM-120C-5
Maybe devs could add the R-37M2-ER with a 500 stage booster and quantum thrust vectoring. That should finally bring competitiveness to Russia which has been swindled in every update
Oh and also we need R-74M6 to be on par with AIM-9M

I think he is expecting the R-77-1 to do a 180 degree turn and then proceed to go 500 kilometers
I’ve had r-77-1 hit mach 4 after a 90 degree turn at 2k of altitude, on the amraam’s to even get to mach 4 you gotta climb to space and go mach jesus

Actually I was really missing possibility to take old R-77s for the 30SM/SM2, because sometimes missiles turning ability is more important
The Su-30SMs problem isn’t it’s missiles, it’s the airframe. Just having an airframe that doesn’t take half the map to get supersonic after takeoff will buff the R-77-1 a lot. also the C5 is a slower accelerating but longer burning missile, it’s not so much that it’s “bad” as people claim, but it is a poor fit for the current meta, the R-77-1 is more than adequate for it, especially when you have up to 12 of them
