Uh, no it actually isn’t TDM. The problem is people like to treat it as TDM when it clearly isn’t.
Is killing all enemy aircraft a way to win the match?
Yes.
Is it the only way?
No.
Ground targets and the ticket system exist for a reason. Player kills and destruction of ground targets remove tickets from the pool until it’s empty. Base destruction used to do the same, but some bombers and attackers could end the game early because of poor map design and rather than fix it Gaijin just decided to make base destruction have zero impact on the match.
Maps need to be larger with more objectives to complete and more ground targets to hit and spread them out more instead of setting them up in a way that always leads into a bloody furball. Unfortunately, Gaijin’s blatant incompetence on the matter continues.
Oh please, don’t give me that. That’s like claiming that North Korea has fair and honest elections because technically its citizens can vote against the Party. Go tally up how frequently air RB is won via ticket drain vs won via destruction of the opposing team and tell me with a straight face that it isn’t a team deathmatch game mode as currently designed.
Its pretty much the same in ground too, one side will wipe out the other team enough for their 1-2 death leavers to quit and steamroll with numbers advantage and objectives naturally get captured at the end of the TDM by the team that is playing 10v4 at end the match. Objectives end up being a mercy for the losing teams players dumb enough to stick around by ending the match.
Touching objectives is pretty pointless unless the other team has all 3 and you need to stop ticket bleed.
Game modes in realistic are just TDM with some suggestions that end up beimg detrimental to participate in. Capping objectives in ground is more risk than its worth, ground pounding in air is a good way to have someone with a massive energy advantage collect a free kill on you, bases are just RP pinatas with no effect on the games outcome.
Yep, there was. It made bombs useless. It was also just a glitch that rockets were doing so much damage in the first place.
This makes no sense btw. Fighter jockeys don’t care if you use rockets or bombs or napalm, they hate you equally. Rockets got fixed because, and I need you to get your entire brain ready for this, GAIJIN wanted to nerf rewards.
It VERY MUCH IS TDM with how gaijin has ruined the mode over the years. What you say describes OLD air rb from the 2012-2020 period… they have since made many changes that have made it purely into TDM.
Bomb bases? Doesn’t effect tickets anymore hardly at all.
Kill ground? Also won’t end game through tickets (doesn’t impact tickets enough to matter)

I’m fully aware Gaijin wanted to nerf rewards, hence why I am quick to tell people to stop whining about nerfing rewards because they hate base bombing. Because every single time they get what they want (nerfing rewards), they come back onto the forums and cry Gaijin nerfed rewards and it’s the base bombers fault.

It’s a fact that ARB isn’t TDM. People just choose to treat it like it is, but it isn’t by all technical and legitimate definitions. Simple as.

That said, it still isn’t TDM. If it was, then the ONLY obj we would have is " Kill the entire enemy team ".
We do not. We still have ground Objs to clear to affect ticket drain and therefore by all technical and legitimate it is not TDM.
It very much unfortunately is with the changes gaijin has made. I am not a fan.The other objectives cant win games anymore 99.9% of the time.
At high and top tier it’s basically impossible, sure. I’ll give you that.
Below that, yes it still is very much possible.
Like you, I’m not a fan. The entire mode and maps need a complete overhaul.
At what BRs?
10.0 and below. I’ve had many matches where Warthogs, Frogfoots and other strike aircraft cleaned house due to adequate fighter cover.
Even at that BR, it won’t win if the bots take out too many AI before the A10s can attack OR if the map doesn’t have enough targets etc
It’s based on cold hard facts: I haven’t seen a single match of air RB end via ticket drain this entire year. This is despite the fact that I have spent many hours farming thunderer awards and antimech wagers with THE most powerful ground attacker in the entire game: The F-15E. Despite being able to delete an eye watering 20-26 ground targets in a single pass over the battlefield, this has NEVER ONCE helped my team win. In fact they held my team back and it would have been infinitely more beneficial to my team if I were to have equipped additional AIM-120s and 9Ms. The ONLY thing that the ground kills did were to help me complete selfish goals like farming SL or completing daily/event tasks.
The ticket drain from attacking AI ground targets is negligible to the point of irrelevance. It is a vestigial leftover from when it was more impactful years ago. The very few times that I have seen victory via ticket drain were ALSO matches where the team effectively won the team deathmatch and the sole survivor is hiding on an airfield or in orbit, and the players who won the deathmatch just mop up some soft targets as a formality since it’s faster than waiting for the match timer to hit zero.
Bots are part of the obj targets to take out. To ignore them is to invite an otherwise preventable loss if your team - Gaggle of randoms they may be - Doesn’t PTFO.
Taking out enemy players.
Taking out AI.
All of which drains the enemy’s tickets and leads to victory. Ideally, you don’t ignore any of the objectives and complete as much as possible to win. It’s that simple.
Yet I have won matches by ticket drain via PTFO, as have who knows how many tens of thousands of other War Thunder players this year alone.
Your " cold hard facts " are purely subjective and thus completely irrelevant in the grand view of things.
You aren’t listening. FRIENDLY BOTS will kill the ground targets BEFORE the ACTUAL attackers can, and FRIENDLY BOTS destroying enemy ground DOES NOT reduce tickets.
