Hey all, I made a bug report about this specifically in the past. I’m hoping someone can shed some light on this further. Declassified documents only of course. Here’s the thing. I believe that there is additional armor between the Nera shield pack and the Abram’s rotor. (circled in red for clarity)

The first photo shows the gun with the rotor depicted.

This next photo is what I believe Gaijin missed when modeling the gun shield. This photo shows the inner gunshield assembly. This is NOT modeled in-game and I believe this is a solid piece of homogeneous armor. Notice the bolt holes on the sides. Those secure the front gunshield to the backing. The inner bolts secure the backplate to the gun’s rotor.

This photo shows the outer gunshield which houses the nera packs. This gets bolted to the backing in the previous photo. The bolts are located on the sides which is shown on all Abrams

Now this photo is without the piece in question. I believe this is the raw rotor (as shown in the first photo)

Additional photo of just the gun and rotor. Notice the two horizontal bolts on the left and the two vertical bolts on the right match the gunshield backing plate that is missing in game. You can gauge how thick this piece is by how far back both the gunner optics sit.
Hey man we tried this with Challenger 2 and sent in loads of information but Gaijin in their unending wisdom decided it was all marketing lies and falsified information by the British government and that the protection of about 600mm of LOS steels actually are about 400 or something. Good luck with this one.
stated by the devs because they didn’t want “everybody to be sitting hull-down” and “to give players counterplay in all situations”. It was in one of the really early blogs/threads around advancing storm or new era iirc
leads to fun things like only 1 MBT has a gun trunnion made of RHA whereas everything else has structural/soft steel
I gave a lot of information about the leclerc too, and like gaijin just dont want to work on it, they didnt even answer to me, like they dont give a single …, I feel like we are nothing for them except money, they dont want to fix some bug that are on the game for now years, they dont talk, dont answer, dont fix, they are useless, and this for everything, like the chally looks absolutly massiv, we all know the armor is heavier than in the game, but for a reason, they dont fix and dont communicate
You can give them multiple sources but when it not suite them we’ll, well… it goes into oblivion like every raport people here make. People spend big amount of time researching for them, make trips to museum to make measurements or take photos but every time they just go " we need numbers" and " we don’t accept reports made of assumptions". I don’t think, in case of modern MBTs, they never accepted a report based purely on secondary sources, assumptions, measurements or normal common sense or what ever. Like this one with Abrams or:
Leo2A7V Armor package that is basically worse than 30 years old Strv122A,
Leopard 2 PSO UFP still cannot bounce or absorb any APFSDS unlike on STRV122A that has the same package but can soak up shots (sick double standards)
Lack of 2 additional plates in Leopard 2A5+ in arrowhead armour in the turret, (basically someone made a photo of this armour laying on the ground but it’s still missing xD)
Ariete WAR kit protection that should give more than 10KE,
Lack of Ariete composites in the hull.
Chally 2 armour scheme and how strong it is,
every NATO ERA package that is underperforming,
Every NATO composite screens that give less KE protection than rubber-fabric screens on T-80B or pure aluminium.
Lack of regenerative steering that would boost every non-soviet type vehicle overall mobility
No historic shells to many Leopards 2A4(DM33), Leopard 2PL(DM53/63) and Abramses(M833 and M900, 120mm M829A3/A4) while USSR counterparts shoots 3BM-42 as low as 9.7
In my thinking over performing 125mm slug-type darts angled performance
M735 falsely nerfed, got acknowledged that it was wrongly nerfed and then nothing for 2-3 years. On Type 16 and even went into giving it DM23 that it never used historically just to not revert M735 changes
Man bug reports on Abrams bulkhead fuel tanks incorrectly modelled (submitted as suggestion 2 years ago, still missing in the game)
Many reports of Abrams turret ring and how strong it is
And many many many more that I don’t remember and people can quote here
For me it started to be pointless, I read forum get myself excited about something that community can report but then comes to a report and everything vanishes with " We need exact numbers" or what ever. Pure bullshit

Agreed but we’re getting off topic and I don’t want this thread locked, this post is about the Abrams, not the chally or leo. You guys are certainly welcome to start your own threads
Yeah sure, you can gather info here and there but its pointless tbh. Gaijin would need to change a policy how they model every MBT in this game, nor they dont want to western tanks, such as Abrams, to have ability to stop soviet shells reliably. We can assume that 2008 SEP V2 has more mantlet armour than 230mm raging to 380mm RHAe in some places, basically 50mm RHAe more than its prototype of XM-1 GM that lacks any type of NERA in the mantlet, nor identical from first M1 Abrams 105mm to newest ones.
That clearly says XM1 and also matches the M1. Not the A1 and newer. More importantly do you have any input regarding the missing plate in front of the rotor and behind the gunshield pack?
Ya i wonder what the BRs would look like if some tanks had impenetrable breaches. Abrams having that nasty turret neck would probably be the worst with it, leo 2a7 with impenetrable breach sounds like ass to fight. Just go sit at the windmills on eastern europe and the game is over, unless other team manages to flank behind your spawn.
Can you pen it with a bushmaster or similar now? Only light tank with auto canon i have at abrams tiers is the 2s38 and puma besides. And even if modeled ideally would it stop full caliber darts?
