It possibly is, as long as you’ve got enough patience and knowledge. I’ve already seen some missions with infantry, although they’re somewhat lacking.
You would need a substantial increase in the amount of SL awarded for taking a Zone. You would need carriers in every nation at every BR and no way to grind them.
This might work as a one of game. The have been other games where protecting convoys was the mission, possibly, Sudden Strike or may Company of Heroes.
I agree War Thunder deserves a major shakeup of some kind. Not sure this would be it.
Well yes, playing troop carriers should be made profitable in order to have a playerbase.
I also believe troop carriers should be researchable. You could just have 2 separate IFV and APC research lines in the tree and grind them by playing with any ground vehicle. I’ve done some superficial research and there definitely are APCs for all nations (except for China, but I’m sure something can be figured out), while IFVs would be parallel (although obviously appearing in a higher BR). You also don’t necessarily need a vehicle for every single BR, since, at least for the APC, you’re going to be a sitting duck 99% of the time. What would change is mobility and armor, but probably not weaponry. The biggest weapon you could have as an APC is anything below 20mm, so you just can’t defend yourself, nor harm the enemy team physically.
I honestly think AI would be ok to test the concept, but not to implement it in the game. From my point of view this is to enhance player cooperation and also to offer a different gameplay.
Yeah, they do, just not enough have been added yet. Britain for example only has a single IFV and it’s only 8.3, I’d say you’d want at least 2 per BR.
Also need to consider adjustments to the SP cost as well
I’m struggling to think of many dedicated armored troop transports from WW2 and certainly the ones I can think of were open and utilized nothing heavier than MG’s.
I wish I could offer something more positive.
Spoiler
Swedish Terrängbil m/42D SKP
Italian Autoprotetto S.37
French Lorraine 37L (Tracteur de Ravitaillement pour Chars)
Japanese Type 1 Ho-Ha
Soviet ZiS B-3 APC
As for the US they could use the M2 or M3 halftrack and Germany the Sd.kfz. 251
That’s the point. The goal is to force troop transports to rely on their tank teammates so they all cooperate to achieve victory.
What does somebody in a troop transport do once the zone is taken? Who decides who get the troop transport? What if you spawn and nobody else is near you?
Well… move on to another capture point I guess. There would still be 3 capture points and in case all of them are captured by allied forces I guess APCs could have the ability to scout.
In my opinion teams could be divided in 25% tanks and 75% APC/IFV, or 50% tanks and 50% APC/IFV. This would be done artificially, which could somewhat affect matchmaking. You could also do it the easy way and just let players jump in with whatever vehicle they want regardless of the type (take note you would still have templates and all that, it’s just that you can add APCs to it). The obvious and biggest problem to this would be the possibility of having teams almost completely composed by APC or tanks.
Then you move close to your teammates, wait for them, don’t go alone, coordinate and cooperate. It’s all about teamwork and not just jumping in alone.
Could make a good component if Enduring Ground is ever added.
Although that one person is right, most players aren’t team players and leave each other to die if they don’t immediately benefit them.
I would like to see a system where actual teamwork is promoted for the more committed player base and give the ability to further teach a decent skill set to people that only play the game for kills.
Yeah thats a stupid idea
Cool, so the United States just automatically wins every game below like BR 5.0, because they have LVTs at 1.0 and most people have no IFVs at all?
Name an IFV and APC from the 1940’s.
Right now ideas are just being thrown out here. Noting really set. Can you contribute something to remedy the US having an advantage? Something like non nation specific transports? Its still just a idea that can be discussed.
I can’t really think of anything, no. Back then most of the infantry just walked. So of course you could add walking infantry would be the obvious, historical solution to extend this idea.
And that can be a fun game, but as someone else already pointed out: that game is called “Enlisted” and already exists under the same publisher.
Maybe in like a special gamemode where you’re helping infantry assault a city or something but in regular ground battles this just fucks over nations that dont have IFVs. That being said, I am all for adding new gameplay opportunities for IFV/APC’s. Armored warfare has a mechanic where you can drop off infantry teams which will attack tanks with a rocket launcher, mortar, or sniper rifle. I dont think that mechanic specifically would work in WT but its something to think about
Considering most IFV’s are balanced to be good at standoff combat and perform poorly at close range, forcing them to capture points with no promise that any of their teammates will help them, is an exercise in frustration.
Not to mention some IFV’s are dramatically more powerful than others so base capturing power will be disgustingly unbalanced across nations.
Same publisher questionable developer sub company who may care more? unsure so no questions on that honestly.
Infantry would not work in War Thunder, a special gamemode would be in events.
“Assault a city” would just be thrown into PVE gamemode aka ground assault.
There is no way this would be fun in this configuration. Maybe if other ground units capture it two times slower or something, than it wouldn’t be the most fustrating feature ever.
Players cant even spawn SPAA to protect their team from CAS and you think they would spawn IFVs to capture points? Dude…
