Haven’t tried the J-7 but the A-5C is an insane aircraft. Pretty great as a CAS support for the ZTZ96 (picked up both last sale) with a mixture of small-calibre HEAT rockets (general purpose rockets), large-calibre HE rockets (for sniping AA), and bombs (for heavier ground vehicles). In air it’s busted- Magics are 2 free kills at a BR where many aircraft lack countermeasures and your flight performance except roll rate is above average.

J-7D has good missiles, but the airframe is shit for 11.0. The engines have slow energy generation, it’s like between mig-21S and SMT.

I think I’ll pick up the A-5C and grind the tree. The J-7E is infinitely better it seems and I want it
A-5C is one of the fastest aircraft at that BR and below. Pretty much nothing below them can win. Even aircraft like the F104 and Lightning arent able to deal with them.
You wot. Did you just called Starfighter slower than A-5C? The Starfighter who even at 10.7 can still just zoom away after attack from anyone?
Ye,so no chaff if you go full flares so any F-8E at alt just yeet u with 9C. And i prefer the 9P tbh due to range and launching them from above at 3km instead of the Magics.
A-5C is better and easier to play. J-7D is just both MF and SMT in the same plane (in a bad way) but with PL-5B

Dont listen to anyone that tells you to get the J7D its a horrible aircraft its pretty much just a Mig-21MF with better missiles the A5 is much better since its a lower br and can beat any plane it faces in an energy fight

F-104 cant turn at all and the A-5C can. All you have to do to defeat an F-104 is turn slightly. You might not be able to catch up to them to kill them, but you certainly can defeat them in any other aspect.
The A-5C can turn fight quite well, has CMs and 2 excellent rear-aspect IR missiles. Pretty much anything sub-sonic is DOA vs one, even more so as most dont have any CMs either.
I mean have you played the F104 since the flight model got neutered even the F104S which has the best engine cant break mach 1.2 anymore at sea level with a normal weapon load
I dont even want to to try playing my F104J anymore not while its still stuck with rocket pods for flares
J-7D, contrails ruined A-5C.
I bought the J-7D, it’s got a learning curve but the PL-5B and Magic I combo nets me a pretty solid 2 kills per game, it doesn’t get murdered by up tiers as well it’s still pretty competitive. Use it if you don’t want to talisman the J-7E to grind out the rest of the tree because the A-5C is only rank 6.
I have both but, it depends for playstyle.
J-7D was awful before BR decompression but, it is OK now.
If you already know how to play MiG-21MF, you should buy J-7D but, if you don’t, just buy A5C.
I’d go for the A-5C, easy to bomb and fly, can do fighter duties well since it’s just a fat MiG-19.
Once you reach the J-7E tali that and keep it as your main grinder ( believe me, it’ll spoil you)

The A5C, much like the other Q5 Fantans have INSANE engine power that alone makes them excellent. Sure they don’t turn as well as the mig19’s but they make up for it by having insane thrust even without blower. The 23mm marshmallow guns do take some time to learn but if you hit with them they tend to do good damage now. Honestly even without missiles it would be a good pick.
