7+ years of playing Naval as main culminated with this peak bonehead game design

I would have to spend hours trying to explain how bad this game is and how long I have been writing about it on the old forum. Pathetically bad match maker, 70%+ of matches that should never exist (that’s including tanks), constant uptiers and losing streaks. Every match I’m asking myself a question “How am I going to get screwed this time?” Borked aim, shells not working, getting 1-shot from across the map by a bot, steamroll loss and pretty much guaranteed (predetermined) outcome before you even press that ‘To Battle’ button. The very rare full downtiers? Somehow you have a hard time hitting anything, shells suffer from a cotton ball syndrome and you end up with a steamroll loss 9 out of 10 times.
How about them uptiers? Naval battles now usually have 4-5 people on a team. You will be lucky to have a half team that is not bots, yet the game still manages to have 1.0 BR spread with 1 team having (for some strange reason) more higher BR players than my team… and I just always happen to be the lowest BR.

Feast your eyes on this turkey (peak gaijin gaming experience):
https://warthunder.com/en/tournament/replay/374244371931899348?public_key=UOWlwLc8M1wOUKRPSEy9

Half players, half bots. My team just happens to have 4x6.0 cruisers (including me) and the other team shifted up (just 1x6.0), full of battleships. You spawn with a stupid timer that spawns everyone Star Trek style and everyone starts shooting. With the stupid spawn design I spawn almost all alone against majority of the enemy team while my team spawns nice and safe in the middle. The match was so fun that I couldn’t even get out of spawn while being targeted by the majority of the enemy team at the same time.

Never mind that gaijin has nerfed Prinz Eugene mobility over the years and never mind it was 5.7 before the last update. Now it’s just constant suffering with compressed 6.0-7.0.

Btw, I used this premium ship as I was using 300% SL booster. Used to use Moffett most of the time, but last 3 years about 90% of the matches with it were 0.7-10 uptiers, so I mostly retired it about 6 months ago. Played Fort Knox for a while, but even that ship started getting 0.7-10 uptiers. Prinz Eugen was fun for a few weeks, but then the suck started with it as well. All my stats are dropping like flies for years now. I stopped playing tanks due to constant uptiers and steamroll losses that just told me it’s all a waste of time. Naval was my refuge, but last 3 years everything just started going downhill with the last 4-5 months being the absolute worst. What kind of people, that are in charge, would allow this game to become such sad joke? Every day I play I get further disappointed. Constant screwups, bugs and nonsensical gameplay runs this game to the ground. All these years (more than 12 now) and I see this game in the worst state, yet.

It’s ‘funny’ that about 9 years ago I had an overall 68% win rate and the more I learned, the better I got, my win rate was getting worse and worse. The more I killed, the worse uphill battle I had to face. Every match I have to grind the skin off my knuckles just to get a win. Most matches end with the enemy team having 90%+ of tickets left. Torpedo boats or bots decide most of the matches. How can ONE cap zone out of 3 bleed 100% of the tickets??? Why is one team bottom BR heavy while the other team is top BR heavy??? The above match is a perfect example what I have to ho through every day.

It looks to me that gaijin is trying really hard to make their long term players and game supporters to stop playing their little game. I guess I’m a witness of what this game was, so I have a broader perspective on gaijin’s persistent screwups. The word ‘equity’ comes to mind. If you play well, the game makes sure you have worse time and less income (so you don’t get ahead of yourself). Right now I’m sitting at 44% win rate (that’s right 44%) while being in the 79th place overall (even though I play much less than I used to… this tell me I’m not the only one that plays less these days). I complained about sub-50% win rate for the last 8 years. I had events that required 10 wins, but I ended up playing 32+ matches just to get these 10 wins. All these years of the same suck. The second day of this battle pass I went on this absolute sucky losing streak once again… and I’m still plagued by it to this day. My overall score went down and my overall kill per spawn also went down by about 1. This is not an accident, but deliberate suck built in. How can you have a special task that requires 8 wins… and it takes you 6 days to accomplish it? The sad thing is the exact thing has happened to me many times now. You just play and collect loss and loss while not being even able to finish a stupid easy task.

Funny how much easier it was for me to get wins when I was a newer player and how much my overall win rate has tumbled down from 68% to as low as 52% at times. Strange thing that I had more than 20,000 matches, but my stats are showing 19,000+ now.

Gaijin needs to scrap this awful match maker and go back to the drawing board. All these hidden “Gulag” subroutines need to be removed, as “equity” is ruining this game. Stop punishing seasoned players, gaijin. I guess you think because some people stick around for so long, you can now treat them like trash and cannon fodder for your handicapped matches.

Without getting too much in to it, you’re on to something.

There IS a benefit to Gaijin to pushing veteran players out.

Veteran players have memories.
Veteran players notice trends.

The longer someone stays in this, the more they come to recognize Gaijin’s nonsense. And Gaijin doesn’t want that.

They prefer a revolving door model. Because people who only play for maybe a year, don’t remember:

“We’ll never do modern tanks.”

“Why not give everybody a free Abrams?!”

“We won’t sell top tier premiums.”

China was region locked.

etc.

etc.

etc.

Veteran players become one of three things:

Jaded oldheads constantly getting in trouble because they keep calling out things despite knowing it will get them in trouble (like me)

Sycophantic Gaijin apologists who know exactly what the problems are, but make a point to deny deny deny and troll people who bring them up (either because they think that’s fun or because they get on someone’s good side that way, who knows)

The rare unicorn who manages to ignore it all, but they still know what the deal is anyway…

Heya fren, before this thread gets locked (because it is a “duplicate”) I wanted to post a link to the “main” thread about the current issues with Naval Battles:

Please copy/repost your message there so more players can see it 👍 That thread has over 1,000 replies now, and many/most naval players have it “tracked” or “watched”. The mods have been closing every new thread on the subject and asking everyone to post on the existing one.

I agree with your sentiment, look forward to continuing the conversation over there, cheers! 🍻

The problem is that that thread is in the Arcade subforum. Naval also exists in RB. That thread needs to be non-specific for higher visibility. I never check the Arcade tag.

I will see if the OP can edit the tag, or might require a mod to edit it. I just know that every new thread like this gets closed in ~1 day lol. Will see what I can do 👍

Understood. Here’s hoping they edit the tag. I agree it needs visibility because Naval needs care.

Posted and pinged the OP (though, I don’t think he has posted since his thread was created, so he might not reply.) If you know the best way to utilize thread tags, please leave a message/reply to me on that other thread. I am definitely not an expert with the tags, and I think you can only use 2 tags per thread? Not sure of the best way to edit/modify that thread’s tags for maximum visibility.

They need to remove the squad vs squad mechanic of the matchmaker for naval matches, cause it’s getting annoying.
I want to play 4 stack with friends sometimes, but most of the time there are no other 4 stacks to face against so 5+ minute queue times emerge as it tries to match us with another 4 stack.

Or worse if someone attempts to play EC where 4 stack means 10 - 40 minute queue time.

I’d rather face 4 stacks when playing solo than deal with bad queue times with friends.

There is a fourth option. Those of us who accept that there are issues, but continue to play anyway because no other game does what War Thunder does as well as War Thunder does it.

I almost exclusively play Ground RB because that’s what I enjoy. In my case some of the things people consider to be issues, like CAS and seal clubbing, are things I find fun.

That’s what I meant by the rare unicorn. You’re describing the same thing. You know what the issues are but keep playing because you enjoy the game itself.

I’ve been playing since 2014 I get it. I"m just a hothead so sometimes I shoot my mouth off so I can’t say I’m one of the unicorns. I’m one of the trouble people lol.

Except I’m not ignoring it all. I’ve made threads about issues too. For example did you know that tanks with hand crank turrets still suffer a rotation speed penalty after the battery is dead when the engine is off?

There’s a difference between ignoring the issues and accepting that there isn’t a viable alternative game.

Yeah I know what you mean, we’re not in disagreement here.

This thing needs to be said in a dedicated thread, as this does not apply to Naval only. Things buried on the n-th page of a long thread do not have the same impact as most people will ignore the updates at this point and most people will not go through thousands of replies to be up to date about the subject.

Just checked and with the current 44% win rate for the month, my last visible 9 matches in the battle list are 3 wins and 6 losses, including the last 4 being all losses. Btw, my last 2 losses were with 300% SL boosters. All these losses pretty much NEGATE my premium time and my income. Lost time and money that I will never get back for this farce…

The sad thing is I can almost predict what will happen in the next match, that’s how persistent this built in suck is. Really sad state of this so-called ‘game.’ smh

Add to that:
Gaijin: “We will never have Rank IV premiums in the game.”
then gaijin again later:
“We will never have Rank V premiums in the game.”

I DO remember that. It’s up to us to keep gaijin to higher standards. New players have no idea about this.
