.50's deserve a buff

arent we the ones that are complaining about not being able to instakill other planes?

Percussioncap is suddenly caring about fuel tank ignition chances only when they make it where you can’t insta kill a plane via snapping it’s wing off.

Ignition chances I’ve complained about constantly as you can see in the above videos. Especially with the Bf-110.

Even 20mm incendiary sucks and is not functional

There is a small difference between a 20mm incendiary shell and a missile with a 40kg warhead

It really shouldn’t matter because you don’t care about realism, you just want to be able to 1 shot everything.

Don’t argue on the matter of realism if you’re gonna be pick and choosy with it

You’re right, I won’t argue on realism. I can just let the evidence speak for itself.

I never said a missile shouldn’t screw up a bomber lol. I even said multiple times DMs are too strong, but that missiles aren’t going to be just blowing bombers in half when they were designed to spray fragments everywhere and make it so it’s nearly impossible for the bomber to keep flying, and we’re seeing the limitations of how all bomber DMS are made, you’re usually smacking areas that were never programmed and modeled to snap off.

But you only seem to care about realism once they start buffing damage models and all the things I stated before on this exact thread, are rearing their head in ways I exactly expected.

Woah… That sounds familiar.

Furthermore: the issue isn’t ignition chance, it’s the complete lack of it. Just now I tried two night fighters with the “slanted music” upwards-firing cannons. Firing a few hundred shells directly into a fuel tank - no fire.

Even if we assume fire chance on Live server is too low (sure, whatever), you can easily set plenty of players on fire as we’ve demonstrated.

I don’t need them to snap off. I just need the giant fuel tanks that have taken hundreds, if not thousands of penetrating hits to be set on fire, and then actually do damage instead of just going out; or the engines, when set on fire, to not just go out on their own and not cause any real damage.

This lack of fuel tank ignition does not change depending on what caliber is being used. I’ve tried .50s, 20s, and 30s dozens of times.

It’s a very different story from your .50cal screenshots where you either get incredibly unlucky or just miss and hit far too few shots to guarantee a fire even IF the fire chance was ~50%.

Don’t worry, you can hit the parts programmed to fall off and the same happens.

Same with the initial video with the G8N, I know the outer wings are programmed to be able to be detached, and they simply didn’t.

Glad we both agree fuel tank ignition needs to be fixed. ;D

50 cals at 9.0 have no use.

sounds like an aim issue
i mean yes they are inferior to 20mms up there but they are far from useless

I will say that all .50cal pure incendiary bullets definitely need some help, to put it lightly. In a confined space an aircraft weapon incendiary acts sorta like an explosive, with a TNT equivalency of 0.3-0.5x the same mass of TNT. Currently the various pure incendiary bullets of US 12.7mm M2 and M3 Brownings, as well as similar bullets for the Finnish Lkk/42 12.7mm guns, seem to do basically nothing whatsoever. As do various “IT” and “I” bullets on larger-caliber guns despite having many times more filler per bullet such as MK108 pure incendiary bullets.

Also, apparently .50cal HE and HEI bullets do exist from WW2 eras, but they were never adopted due to mechanical unreliability which War Thunder doesn’t model on any gun.

It’s hilarious you’re asking for buffs on the best guns for starting fires which are also conveniently the easiest to aim as well.

also wtf are you even trying to say about the 30mm mk108, no dude a 12.7 isn’t comparable lmao

someone clearly has not used pure incendiary rounds

they do absolutely nothing no matter what gun is firing them

which is especially relevant to 0.50s because IRL M23 was much more effective than M20, and in game 0.50s have a belt option that is half M23 and half API, but due to the bugged nature of incendiary that belt option is much less effective than it should be

was real shatter fine because you could just use AP belts?

no it wasnt

so why are you trying to say that incendiary rounds doing no damage (the type of rounds the US army air force found to be most effective) is fine because you have a belt type with none of them

no belts you’d actually want to use have incendiary rounds in enough quantities to matter

AP ammo doesn’t explode

APIT and API can set plenty of fires effortlessly

do I have to copy and paste it again because you cant bother reading?

because you in no way addressed the fact that incendiary rounds do not do damage in game (and this applies to more weapons than just 50 cals)
