The word realism can be used for historical accuracy as well. its not only physically accurate.
it can also be:
“representing things in a way that is accurate and true to life.”
which a king tiger shooting lasers wouldn’t be. but its definitely physically possible.
No it can’t.
A lot of people use it that way, that doesn’t make it correct.
Historical accuracy is simply a stricter condition than realism.
Accuracy needs realism, while realism doesn’t need to be accurate at all.
So everything that wants to be accurate needs to be realistic as well. But if you only want to be realistic then accuracy can go right out the window.
The misconception comes from the fact that realism has two meanings depending on what you are using it on. If you use it in the real world then it is very similar to accuracy and probability. As an example “Logan sargeant will win in Monaco this week” is an unrealistic statement about the real world.
However realism in media representation and art has a completely different meaning. It just means that the media depicts it’s subjects in a physically correct manner. That’s it. Accuracy is irrelevant in that case.
Here is an example of realism that is inaccurate to a ridiculous degree:
This is jesus getting baptised in front of a medieval french castle. From an accuracy Standpoint it doesn’t make any sense. But everything is displayed physically correct. A guy called jesus could have been baptised in front of a french castle that looked like this. The castle doesn’t even have to exist. It is sufficient that it is possible to build a castle like that.
Realism really isn’t a strict condition
Indeed, a lot of people here are stuggling with the difference between realism (what a thing is and can do, purely technical) and authenticity (doctrine, use, historical events, etc).
You seem to be one of them.
i wrote “for” not “to mean”.
as in “the depiction of this ww2 battle wasn’t realistic” thus refering to the depiction and not the battle it self.
so using the definition “the quality or fact of representing a person or thing in a way that is accurate and true to life.” of the word “realism” works in that context.
Or you know, there are more definitions of “realistic”. one of witch is “Characterized by faithfulness of representation, esp. in reference to art, film, and literature; representing things in a way that is accurate and true to life.” thus also containing both accuracy and historical faithfulness.
We also seem to have people trying to argue semantic dictionary definitions instead of actually understanding to two concepts at play here. A rose by any other name, and all that…
semantics are important groundwork to be made before any kind of understanding can take place. if two people argue about something using different definitions of the same word they can both be correct but think the other one wrong. That leads nowhere.
A perfect description you have here; Arcadification
Ground gameplajy becomes dumber and faster every update it seems!
What this game need is a EC with big maps, dynamic objectives for both air, ground, heli and even naval/coastal, to evolve!
Sadly it seems Gajin has found their “format” and that is more and more arcadification!
That’s exactly what I’m saying, and why I’m asking people to look past the semantics and at the actual concepts themselves. For emphasis, let’s use entirely different words:
-
Blarg. Blarg is how technically and mechanically correct an object is, in terms of its physical nature, the laws of physics, and so on. Blarg is what a thing is, nothing more.
-
Honk. Honk is what thing was intended to be used for, what it was used for, where and when it was used, the doctrine around use of the thing, and so on. It’s not about the actual thing itself, but the intent of the people around it, and the historical context it existed in.
That is to say, a Type 89 tank fighting a Maus in Alaska can be entirely Blarg, even if it’s not Honk.
Accurate to life just means that humans have the right proportions and physical features though.
Again jesus in front of a french castle is realistic but historical nonsense
Their format is to introduce new vehicles every 2-3 months of which the premium portion grows with each update.
Once they run out of vehicles, they will have 2 options.
- Update and improve gameplay/modes.
- Introduce more copy paste in the form of new nations.
If you’d ask me 5 years ago, I’d say they go with the first option. If you ask me now, I say the 2nd is more likely.
At this rate the game will eventually devolve in teams full of premium T-80’s spawning in a line on a perfectly flat map without trees 100m away from each other and fight it out Napoleonic war style. The timer will be further reduced (upon player’s feedback of course) to 5 minutes. S400 systems will shoot a plane 2 seconds after spawning it in.
I personally think the game is dying and Gaijin are providing an assited death.I dont see anything in Warthunders road map that is aimed at turning it around or fixing the mistakes devs made over the last year.
The game is not remotely drying. Furthermore, all the changes in roadmaps were suggestions made by the community.
Lol
Neither you or I would know if game is really dying or not but it certainly feels like it at times and queue times can be far too long now.We certainly have many posts on here from veterans saying goodbye.
Are you on the Dev team or have you travelled to the future ? You can almost see the game evolving into what you have described as each update passes !!!
Heh, it’s the little things that never change. Like, maybe add more spawn locations in air AB. Tank AB doesn’t have to be chum targets for air attack, every game.
Naval, really, guided missiles, really? Naval, add more spawns when there is only one for a group of large ships. That ends up being more ships crammed together than battleship row at Pearl Harbor.
Now, people on a different server get the benefit of having a Romulan cloaking device. Some games you can actually hit other planes, other games not so much.
There are some things that have come and gone, maybe bring them back. For instance, v1 flying bomb was in the game for an event!
Don’t do sneaky things, like moving Firecrest to tier two after I grind it. I want my squadron points back for that one!
Forgot to add, air AB or RB, you have no missiles or crap missiles, they have great missiles. Feels like a Guinea Pig running the 100 meters with birds of prey circling overhead.
It does seem warmer of late ,too many desert maps maybe ?
