You can't artillery a spawn but they can be carpet bombed?

I understand it’s a gameplay defence to stop people targeting the spawn(s) with artillery but nothing is done to stop Bombers zooming past and unloading?
Just seems strange as after lower-mid tier, artillery is just an annoyance but 500kg bombs are a real threat.

Just frustrating as a game yesterday I was straffed to dead by a 262 jet in my US T34 just as I was about to cap, respawned a bit annoyed and Dornier flew in low and dropped 4 1 ton bombs on the token spawn, I travelled 8 meters and was annihilated and he wasted 4 other tanks in 1 pass. Our SPAA never saw him and was blown across the map. Team never recovered and we lost.

Made me think, you can’t arty a spawn and enemy tanks show up on the map if they get close but nothing is done to deter planes from getting cheap kills?

Almost every action game in history has some sort of spawn defence.

Probably because it would also harm gameplay to have spaa sit in spawn and be effectively immune

I hate CAS but the problem is SPAA cause they are camping in the spawn. So if they turn off bomb damage top tire CAS is gonna be unplayable

american gets a taste of his own medicine

And it would be even worse on maps where a tank/SPAA is able to shoot at a large portion of the map due to that spawn protection.

True but SPAA mainly spawn camp as they are so vulnerable and risky to play. Everytime I take my mid tier SPAA to a mid point that will actually help me team the line of tracer it sends up is an advertisement for any aircraft or marauding enemy tanks that there is a easy kill close by.

(SPAA seem to attract aircraft, not scare them off).

I have no real issue with that.

I really think Spawn protection should remain indefinitely as long as the spawned tank doesn’t shoot. Once it leaves the spawn it cannot retain is invulnerability if it returns. It’s only going to annoy the spawn attackers and the cheap CAS pilots.

I feel map design would fix this.

Maybe tanks could start in bunkers or have some sort of overhead cover.

Can’t be bombed, can’t retaliate either.

Do have to make sure there’s more ways to leave the bunker than enemies can lock down though.

A good SPAA player would be able to fend off said aircraft. SPAA doesn’t need to be a scare factor or a deterence, it should quite literally be the defence and direct offence to the enemy aircraft. SPAA “spawncamping” really isn’t an issue especially because if they are and a plane is making a run intending to bomb spawn guess what, they’re in spawn.

Simply no. Picture this, last minutes of a match, pushed all the way to spawn, and the guys in there are just parading around invincible then stop and sit perfectly still, watching your shells go straight through them, slowly lining up their shots. Sure spawncamping is bad but really by the point it occurs in full the match is long past hope. And many Pantsir or other like SPAA players would abuse tf out of this

Not sure if giving tankers a more annoying version of the “last plane space climbing” is a good idea.

If that happens the game is usually over anyway and the only people getting up set are the spawn attackers.

I loathe spawn camping in tanks especially when you see fast moving BMPs scouting around the edge of a map, making a beeline for the spawn to ambush players who are rejoining. Yes it’s a valid tactic but it’s also very lame.
