YaK-9K: Remove it's APHE belt or move it up to 5.7 in GRB

Well I’ll describe Tu-1 for you. Fat brick with NS-45s, two 23mms and slightly better engines…but at 5.3 instead of 3.7 and loses the bombsight. Not worth it tbh

Lol

Also - if you get the Yak 9p or Yak 9-UT - - - you can change the calibre of the main gun in the mods menu ;)

Best part is since it’s rank 4 it costs a whopping 4880 GE while being overtiered. There a reason why it’s the only 45mm plane to go down in BR instead of up

I’ve played the 109G-6, so I’ve seen that before. Yak-9UT seems even more disgusting than Yak-9K lol

They are all pretty sweet and versatile, anyhow enjoy mate lol.

Thanks! When I posted this thread I decided I would get death threats and hate mail within 20 minutes, despite having a barely positive K/D in it…glad to be proven wrong

There is also the old BP Su-8 with quad 45mm APHE launchers… but 4 of those in the nose and no air brake I can never get it out of the dive.

The Tu-2S is great, it’s ferry agile and quick for a bomber and the -59 version has a 20mm cannon in the tail which is a nasty surprise for CAP. And personally I prefer bombs over gun CAS.

Not the players fault that gaijin makes bad balancing decisions. Honestly I’ve only seen a few players actually make the thing work like the youtube videos of it, most of them just dirt dart like me truing to fly the Su-8.

Yeah everyone’s watched a spookston Yak-9K video and decided “hey this looks fun” then speedrun Yak-9K and is APHE, waste 6 shots on a Chaffee, then pull up too late and become one with the floor.

funnily enough, at least from the test drive, I found the Su-8’s FM better than the Tu-1 lol

My friend used to play the Yak 9K but he quit it because he said that he felt gross playing it.

Thats the problem with youtubes, even ignoring them being highly selective in the clips they show, the average player sees a clip and thinks “I can do that” then proceeds to die horribly.

It’s worse when what they say ends up being plain wrong and end up misleading players. I hate nothing more than a video that sucks cuz it’s disinformative

The NS-45 or Nudelman-Suranov NS-45 is an adapted russian autocannon that fired explosive fragmentation shells which was also commonly used on other russian 45mm AA guns. but was also used on yak 9ks (mostly experimentally) and tu-1s (at the end of the war). However there is no specific document that describes these as high penning APHE shells. These fragmentation shells are only known to pen 58mm of armor if the plane is going 400 kph +. Plus they were only meant to fire in 2-3 round burst and the accuracy wasn’t nearly as good as other normal yak cannons.

plus it did stress the wings a lot of the yak. so as an ajustment ingame maybe the reload time could be slowed to have less stress on the airframe (not because thats a current issue ingame but because it would have been more historically accurate that what we’ve already got)

my sources are Nudelman-Suranov NS-45 - Wikipedia and https://replica-weapons.com/replica-artillery-shells-and-projectiles/soviet-45x186-ozt-replica-shell.html

I believe the first one is the one I found info on. AP must’ve not been added to wiki or it was very experimental ig

It is because soviet 45mm (and tbh not only it) APHE had IRL pen around ~55mm and formula overperformes like 20%

And the reason of this results is not “different penetration test standards” because Japanese in tests of captured 45mm gun got very close penetration to soviet data
