I don’t think hitting a plane from 500m is that difficult.
Probably makes more sense to have them marked at a certain distance.
Maybe with some real time range estimations from the crew.

It takes one hell of an effort to kill 9K using German and US planes around this BR. I remember spiral-climbing in G6, and dude just kept diving away and dodging like crazy.
By the time I drained his energy, I was getting shot by Soviet SPAA, and Soviet SPAA is the only SPAA that actually matters due to superior range and firepower (14.5mm MG is the bane of my existence)
EDIT: I kill Yaks (3U and VK require some effort, but GRB pilots suck, unless they hit me in a head-on, they are toast, I energy trap A6M5s and Mk IX LF Spitfires, which is pure pain in Air RB) in Ta-152H effortlessly, but Ta is a whole different animal. 9K doesn’t have speed or great power or climb, but in Ground RB being able to maneuver quickly is oftentimes enough and it has enough acceleration to keep moving relatively fast.
It doesn’t matter G6 will BnZ it all day, because in Ground RB it’s either one and done, or you’re in a world of trouble.
Also 9K is way tougher than any other non-Soviet plane due to its magical soft protection system vs HE (wood is infused with Stalin’s body odour and thus is ignored by the fuse, which detects superior strength it doesn’t dare to contest).
Not to divert too far off of your point…but the XA-38 has (or at least had) glass tail syndrome. One hit (even by MGs) and it’s usually blown apart.
While I think ‘regret’ is too strong a word, I am certainly disappointed by the Grizzly.
I believe we should take away its incredible maneuverability, which defies the laws of physics. Considering the heavy gun in the nose, it shouldn’t spin around like a top. Take away its maneuverability and add a heavier pitch control during a dive, and everything will be perfectly balanced.
since you now have free backups, its even more OP, because its so easy to spawn 2 of these and kill an entire enemy team…
its so freaking gamebreaking OP - i swear one semi competent pilot (like me) can totally dominate a match. No wonder people leave matches after one death…
It had been too long since playing on the opposte side of this thing to realize how broken it is
That applies to a lot of Russian stuff in War Thunder.
I completely agree with you, sir, but I think the developers won’t do that because of the skuff community, which plays exclusively on Russian/Soviet vehicles.
Im using in 7.7 and still doing very fine. Is propaganda with wings one of the most OP machines never added in this game.
Like the 38MT? XD
I’m using F6F at 7.7 and still doing fine as well. I can believe any CAS machine is OP or not
Oh no, not the Russian win rates! They need to be artificially propped up to help even the worst players achieve a respectable win %. Screw other countries mind you. Some countries having a win rate in the 30%s is fine, and the only reason is “bad players”.
If Russia is really OP as imagined, it will easily reflect on the win rate(yes, the toptier), YAK9K/UT might be the only things that save the Russian WWII win rate vehicles. I couldn’t imagine what would happen if the APHE is deleted or moves their BR to extremely high.
Truth be told Gaijin should add more AP APHE and Heat rounds to more aircraft. There is evidence very little though that the Ho-401 cannon could fire heat rounds from the tank ammo stock.
Can the F6F destroy 7 tanks including some heavies before even reload ???
APHE stay OP mostly because is the common russian shell from 1.0 to 9.3 .
Most of the maps are small completely flat urban mazes thanks to his endemic gun depression problems and crap perform at long ranges.
Practically never suffer from “historical” nerfs like “Germany”.
His time for nerfs are by far the longer and Gaijin usally “forget” move up russian vehicles. The big example is this abomination plane after one years only recivied small BR changes with no nerfs meanwhile Germany CAS eat BR changes and nerfs usaully both and very fast.
If with all this russians win ratios are meh imagine without all this handouts.
But yeah like they said “this is a game made by russians and for russians” .
They might find themselves in a similar situation to Germany and some other nations in terms of win rates?
So, either Russia needs these things to keep them competitive. Which would imply other nations with horrible win rates need something equivalent. Or those win rates are okay no matter the cause and the Yak9K and similar vehicles should get the nerfs/br they deserve. You can’t have it both ways.
the YAK as to go,its impossible to contest it when players bring that plane up to 6.7 since russia has a good SPAA at 7.3+
With 2 of those, even 1 if you want and 2 yaks its game over…if they dont want to remove the APHE at least reduce either the pen or post pen damage
Its insane that this thing can out turn anything for the most part and it needs only 1 single shot on the roof at ANY vehicle,ANY…
Using WR % to have an excuse to let this cancer type plane remain in the game its just clinging on mirrors
The only nation that has such a low win rate is Germany; the other nations is due to different kinds of reasons, such as leaks of tanks. yak9k/UT has made balance for 5.0-6.7 to adjust Russian winrate, only if those who wish Russian winrate becomes the worst will hope nerf them only.
Yak9k is pretty easy to defeat; even some of the 3.0-4.0 aircraft could easily defeat it, basically it just suffered due to its cannon, we do have an original and better YAK9 at 3.0, and due to it’s pretty hard to against SPAAs, it is 100% overvalued, which caused CAS to be nerfed together.
For more high-tier? The only thing I can believe is that some of the players might be using their high-tier jets to dogfight with it, just like some of the silly players try to use P47/P51 to dogfight with Zeros, and of course, now you know what real OP for Russia are, those Cold War SPAA
