It is 6.0 and i find it enough. You may have your own opinion, i have mine.
I just don’t find it to be a plane deserving to be on equal BR with stuff like Spit mk.24 P-51H or Ki-84 and in a bit worse matchmaking fight against things like Me 262C, M163, or shooting star.
It is already owned by any half decent AA/fighter player.
Sorry but when it comes to GRB this vehicle should be compared to other air units more when it comes about anti-ground capabilities and I don’t know any plane at such a low B.R. that is able to do that while maintaining good anti-air capabilities
I have 7.8 K/D in it done only in GRB (UT version)
I call that bullshit but everyone will have a different opinion.
Yak9s definitly dosnt have it all. They are heavy and therefore not the most manouvable, they have little ammo and not hard hitting ones, against planes, aswell. (only the 23mm but both dont have that when using the 45mm)
Any Bf109, Typon, Spit, Jap and so on… will have a freekill on a Yak9 unless theyre stooopid.
Also dont forget the BR is based on statistics and most players are also to stooopid to get a kill with a Yak9K especially an Plane…
I know it sucks that they balance stuff like that, but it is what it is. BI should also not be 6.3… but it is… and why? because the few that got it back then sucked ass. Same with the Tu2s, why the f is that 5.3? Cause the people suck ass. For me that thing is stoooopidly broken OP and could easily be 6.3 in GRB.
And if u want to get a balanced game… u need to bann all HVARs to 6.7 minimum aswell… but no one seem to care about that to hard… cause 99.5% of the people havent understood yet that u can kill basically all AAs from 3-4 km, staying out of their range and being unattackable for them. Just get used to it and shoot 3-4 rockets in their way and they will die. Most planes have 8+ HVARs… so happy hunting
Statisticly (sadly u cant different between ground and air rb), the
Do 335 B2 has a Tank KD of 4.3 and Air KD of 1.35, and the
Yak 9k has a Tank KD of 3.42 and Air KD of 0.59, and the USA
AD-4 has a Tank KD of 4.6 and Air KD of 0.77
Well, being 1.7 BR higher than the same plane with just worse engine and 12,7mm instead of 20 seems like an overkill to me.
I’ve been using Yak-9UT in my 5.7 at first and then 6.0 ground lineup for a long time, years before it got APHE and i’ve never found it particularly game breaking.
At 5.7 with APHE it was definitely at it’s strongest, but those tankier heavies above 6.0 like Tiger 2 or T34/29 really put the 45s to the test. I think it’s fine in the current spot.
If they leave me completely alone? Yeah, i probably won’t do as much in any other plane. If they don’t i will be able to do more in many other planes, like TU-2 or F4U-4B
With Yak-9UT I’m able to fight planes and all ground units that spawn. With Tu-2 I’m mostly just a bomber and Your capabilities are restricted to bombs and few 20mm ammo.
With F4U-4B You are able to perform fighter duties after You drop the bombs and get rid of rockets, not like Yak-9UT that will still have ammo. Not to mention that after dropping bombs and rockets You won’t be able to destroy as many ground units as You can still destroy with Yak-9UT
With TU-2 i operate at altitudes most GRB planes won’t chase me after at. And with 5/7 bombs i will have more than enough for the entire enemy team.
With F4U-4B you just need to get rid of 2 bombs, you are still a very decent fighter with those few HVARs underneath.
I also forgot about Do 335-B2 which is also amazing CAS around this BR.
And again, the biggest downside of Yak is vulnerability to AA. No other plane listed above has this downside to such extent. To make best use of your guns you often need to get at least pretty close to the target and to fire at it you need to fly in a straight line
It is really not harder to hit. Size of the aircraft doesn’t matter as much when firing an SPAA. It’s way more about predictability of it’s path. And gun CAS by design is forced to fly very predictable when attacking. It balances out by far the greatest kill potential this type of CAS has
It matters alright. Be it vs SPAA or in a plane on plane scenario. Hence f.e. BI is almost impossible to hit as it’s like 50% of what normal plane is. It’s like trying to shoot a mosquito with a pistol
Of course it matters. If you are shooting something huge, there is a much higher margin of error allowed vs when shooting a tiny plane. The Yak-9 is tiny.
