sap_hei_tank preset, as used for 40mm L/70 HCHE on sgt. york and 57 mm L/70 HCHE on Begleit is used for shells with vast structural differences;
40 mm L/70 HCHE (basically HE but with a delayed-action PD-fuze)
This one is a bit closer to PLD-044 structurally (as it has a windshield, penetrator cap & proper shell-body nose w/ nose-plug), however it features a delayed-action nose-fuze.
These cutaways in comparison should make it clear why PLD-044 shouldnt use the same preset as the shells above.
The Bundeswehr also refers to it as APHEI-T btw (T, AP-HEI)
The sole difference of DM 13 A1 to DM 13 is the use of different primer.
Which would feature 2rds of APHEI-T for 3rds of HEI.
The 3/4rds APHEI-T configuration probably shouldnt be available in-game, but finding sources explicitly saying such mixtures were never supplied will be an absolute pain.
(Note: The DM 21 projectile has a groove above the driving band, wheras DM 11 A1 doesnt. They’re otherwise identical)
Fuse failures on thicker angled armor would also be a very significant nerf to the APHE/SAPHE ammo.
At this rate, totally replacing APHE/SAPHE with APDS (or APDS-F) would actually be preferable for gameplay. The reduced spall generation of APDS to SAPHE actually makes vehicle armor matter more when tumors and cupolas cannot be sprayed to instantly kill crew. Effectiveness against side armor would increase, but paradoxically so would time to kill.
The XM246 being a DIVAD competitor was build to be a fire support vehicle in addition to an anti aircraft vehicle. Here from the competitors marketing:
In it’s current game implementation it is actually missing quit a bit of armor, it should have a sealed off crew compartment:
The XM246 is just doing what it was designed to do, even if it is missing it’s APDS belts.
No give everything in the game everything it historically had access to. It’s not the SPAA’s fault he’s forced to fight in close range on arcade style maps where SPAA is the most deadly, that’s a map design problem.
No “rules for thee and not for me” rubbish. Gaijin can’t handle it.
While the explosive cavitie is larger, the cavitie of the PLD-044 is quite as large if you factor in the fuze and tracer and the walls are quite thin aswell, iirc in game the ballistic cap itself doesnt change the penetration just the ballisitcs, unless they are trated as blunt nose ap like on the soviet rounds.
