Xi'an JH-7, History, Performance & Discussion

The PL-5B has a smaller FoV, may be superior to the AIM-9L but inferior to the AIM-9M. We’ll have to wait and see. My guess is it will be a copy / paste AIM-9L seeker though.

In case anybody was wondering about the GB-100 and possibility to mount 2 on a single pylon: it’s not possible. There has been demonstrations on a test plane of a dual rack with GB-50’s, but nothing shown/used on the JH-7A.

Proof

GB-100 has a 228mm diameter.
GB-500 has a 377mm diameter

Here you can see just how much larger the GB-500 is compared to the pylon T or E DJ49B.

Pylon designation for future reference.

Now that the mystery of PL-5C seems to be settled, anyone want to take a bet what is this mysterious LS1000J bomb? IIRC the old LT series bomb conversion kit (LT-2) is only for 500kg bombs (LS500J). There are a few Western sources that claim it can fit on a 1000kg bomb but it seems there are no photos of it?

Funny enough @gultraman I think the image right above your post showed it off but I can’t be certain. Can anyone confirm that the big bomb in the picture is infact the 1000kg Chinese laser guided bomb? If so it looks very modern and hopefully should have decent glide characteristics

I would definitely be happy with a Aim-9L preforming seeker on the body of a PL-5 tbh

it is the YJ1000 guided bomb

We don’t know if it’s this bomb or the GB-1000 bomb. The mass of these bombs is confusing as well, it seems like they are going by explosive mass rather than total mass for the designations, like the GB-100 weighs in at 130 kg.

Either way, whichever of the 2 bombs is used both use the new dual mode guidance system and are quite modern. The YJ-1000 should be the most modern judging from when the first photos I’ve seen of it are (~2020 vs ~2014 for the GB series of bombs). I would expect amazing performance from either.

Two images above are of the LD-10 anti-radiation missile based on the PL-12/SD-10

I assume the dual guidencen system is both laser and internal guidance system like on the PavWay 24.

Also yeah now I’m really curious what the LS1000J looks like. Hopefully it actually has a more sleek and improved design over the LS500

Hi good to see you here. I have a question about a closed issue:
The JH7A should have a new generation of laser-guided bombs // Gaijin.net // Issues
The mod who closed the issue seem to think GB series bomb is just the export variant of LS500J in game, which is wrong. Can you clarify this statement? A lot of Chinese players seem to be confused by this claim.

Dual mode is described as Laser designation and inertial guidance/satellite guidance. The bombs can grab a lasered spot and then match with satellite imagery with what it sees and guide based off that. At least that’s what they say it does.

Wait, they rejected it for saying they are export bombs? Um, what? The LS series is a first generation guided bombs that relies on a wind direction head to determine how to guide itself. The GB series, which is the same as calling it TS, which we already have the TS-250 (GB-250) in game, uses a dual mode guidance system and has a stabilized gyroscope head instead. I surely hope this is just a rejection based off of naming differences.

@_David_Bowie does it even matter if it is indeed the LD-10 and not Pl-12? The radar is capable of guiding Pl-12’s and the mounts/attachments are identical.

What makes this situation more confusing is that the LS1000J just dosnt seem to exist. I can’t find a single picture or even mention of it, which leads me too believe that maybe gajjin really has just confused the LS-1000J as a different name for one of their more modern bombs

In the yellow circled part of the picture, his Chinese name is “1000公斤激光制导侵彻炸弹”, which means “1000 kg laser guided penetration bomb” in English

I wouldn’t be surprised if this is infact the Laser guided bomb gajjin meant when they said LS1000J. Perhaps they just misunderstood the Chinese naming system? Wouldn’t be the first time. Problem is, that the devblog dosnt show us the 1000kg bomb, only the 500kg one we already have in game

The guided bomb in the picture is the YJ1000 ground penetrating guided bomb, similar to a semi penetrating guided bomb, but I can hardly find any information related to the LS1000J guided bomb

Like I said, I think it’s very possible that Gajjin meant one of the more modern bombs, but due too a misunderstanding, gave it the name of the older series. Unfortunately the devblog dosnt show us and the model isn’t physically in the files so we’ll have too wait until the update too see i guess.

Yes, I think JH7A should be equipped with GB series guided bombs and YJ1000, but I don’t know why. Gaijin seems to consider the GB series as the export version of the LS series, but in fact, the GB series is much better in both pneumatic and guidance methods than the LS series

@Smin1080p is their any way you could shed some light on what the LS1000J bomb is? I don’t believe we see it in the images on the devblog and no one can seemingly provide a source or image associated with a bomb using that exact name, so we’re curious if the devs have potentially used a different name too describe a more modern Chinese laser guided bomb that might also go by a different name

I found two photos of GB1000 and TG1000 (天戈1000), and they appears to to be identical. GB1000 should be the export version of TG1000.
Edit: maybe not, GB1000 is probably an upgraded TG1000 with the option to carry ground-penetrating warhead.
