Work-In-Progress: Regenerative Steering — Should We Add It? Try It & Leave Your Feedback!

Make it a toggle or keybind, this satisfies everyone. If regen steer is added as a permanent feature for top tier MBT’s with no way to turn it off, GRB dies for me and a lot of other players that are less (or not at all) vocal about their opinions/views.

I’m honestly leaning towards this even before making it optional. If this worked properly I don’t think there would be any issues.

Personally I’d even prefer it greatly over a toggle button, I think basic controls like this should be kept ad intuitive as possible with as few extra buttons as possible. If for example letting go of W/S would actually let it shift down I think that’s already a much more convenient solution.

That’d be awesome, thank you so much!

I’d like to see Churchill, it apparently had a triple differential IRL

And if you feel like it, for the funny, Maus :)

(I’m still learning about how the gasoline-electric system works so not sure if the tank could actually do this, but it’d be cool to see it nonetheless)

As far as the game in concerned, it would be near enough identical to War Thunders double diff system.

Apparently IRL a third differential allows you to tighten the turn radius whereas on double diff you are stuck with a set turning radius determined by the gear.

Seeing as lots of people have complained about this it’d be cool to see it modeled accurately

Near enough via the use of brakes as well as the gearing. I can see controller players getting some use out of it, but us M+K players are stuck with a glorified D-Pad for movement. I personally think that what’s available to users of both control schemes should be the same, so id disagree with triple diff being fully added. I feel that sentiment towards the assisted tracking that console players get too. It would simply be unfair.

A lot of that I think comes down to many of us playing for the better part of a decade or more and not liking change. Because i play a lot of games, especially nintendo titles where control layouts are all over across systems from the years, I adapted rather quickly and prefer it a lot. If we ignore those that are here to just complain (or dont want to see a QOL mechanic their fave tanks cant use) i think its really just resistance to change or failing to remember that it is WiP and not fully finished yet

I don’t think most of you guys realise that this isn’t a toggleable system, there should not be a toggle like plane’s cobra button. There’s no override button there magically changes how the steering system works.

On the contrary, Gaijin should add an on/off option in the settings menu to allow people to turn it on or off as an experimental mode.

Keep in mind this is an user mission/modded so not yet officially added by Gaijin, it’s work in progress!

It’s not quite as good as the M41 but as you can see the transmission just doesn’t really want to go lower than 4th. but at the same time it’s also a heavy tank so it’s not going to handle like an M41 haha

It’s keeping up it’s momentum very nicely when making quick left and right turns though, just like any other tank with regen steering. These type of turns are also possible while going uphill btw

I did try the Maus but it’s very bad. A lot worse than the Leo 2 to the point where it’s unplayable. It wants to spend it’s entire life in 8th gear where it doesn’t turn at all (like literally). In lower gears it can turn but it changes them extremely quickly, like 1st is until 2 km/h then the second one is until 4 km/h etc. lol

Could you try the Panther and Tiger 2?

The Maus realistically wouldn’t even have such a system anyway, the earliest known tank that has something similar would be the Churchill, M4 and Panthers.

Please let it come to live then let people vote.

The dev server does not have as many people playing it as the live server.

Big. Fat. NO. We really do not want another APHE situation where people vote against a change that has massive advantage in the long term.

Didn’t need it, it had electric motors so you could merely adjust the power to turn.

I assumed so too but I’m not sure if you could transfer the excess power from one motor to the other like true regenerative systems do.

It’s true you could lessen the power a little on one motor but not sure if you could “overdrive” the opposite side to compensate

Thanks! The Churchill looks good! Light tanks obviously benefit from regen but I feel the benefit to heavier tanks that take a long time to accelerate and normally lose all their speed when turning is slept on.

And did I imagine this or did turning from side to side give you more power to climb the hill somehow?

Could you show Scimitar Mk.2 with such system? Preferably with cage armor installed

That’s a bug, turning somehow provides way more torque than just going straight.

Seconded. Always felt the WT steering system did the Scimitar dirty

User mission/modded content, it’s work in progress

Tiger II is kinda clunky at low speeds but it’s also in 6th gear at 10 km/h when realistically it should be like in 5th until 12 km/h and 6th until 18 km/h. At the same time it does feel like a WW2 heavy tank and how it looks on real footages.

Panthers feel even worse, they definitely need some work. That bug where the tanks just keeps pushing forward even when you are just pressing A or D is really noticeable on the Panthers

Btw speaking of this bug, @Fireball_2020 it’s actually also applicable on clutch steering tanks, spawn the M113 with the weaker engine in test drive and drive into the pot hole right in front, then try to drive out of it normally without turning, the RPMs just doesn’t get high enough for whatever reason so it cant climb out of it, but when u steer left and right all of a sudden it inputs power.

So this might actually kill two birds in one stone if they can fix the underlying issues.
