I was curious when they said they’d remove the R2Y2, and it made me look into something. I realized a version of the R2 existed.
The R2Y1 prop;
And it made me question why it wasn’t in game yet.

Wasnt armed.
its an unarmed reconnaissance plane, there was talk of making it carry bombs as a fast attacker but the war ended before that could be properly decided, so if you want to stretch the ‘‘historical accuracy’’ it’ll be a plane armed with a single 500 or 800 kg bomb.
Kikka…
The kikka had a variant proposed to carry cannons, and the cannons, their amount and the ammunition amount is known. The R2Y1 has nothing but a vague proposal to make it a bomber
Japan needed other aircraft first before filler would be given priority, especially harder to research prototype filler.
F-15J, JM, sub-tree were all more important from the player perspective as well as the developers.
It would be functionally useless in game.
That’s pretty much it.
Fabricate a blueprint and send it to the developers, if the Ho-Ri (Fake-fake Ho-Ri) got into the game this one can too.
This is real; the Ho-Ri was complete fiction.
As annoyed as I am at the removal of the R2Y2 (Kai V1, the others are pretty much fiction) as a person who believe that above all Gaijin should strive to replicate vehicles as realistically as possible had they seen service, I would love to see this ingame but Gaijin already went against the addition of armed, unarmed planes so it’s highly unlikely.
Side note, I think the removal of the R2Y2 in total is pretty detrimental to the Japanese tech tree, as it was the only completely domestic rank V and the last besides the T-2/F-1
Very fair point.
The R2Y1 was developed under the influence of the He 119 reconnaissance bomber, which the Imperial Japanese Navy purchased from Germany.
The He 119 was initially designed as a high-speed reconnaissance aircraft and was later developed as a bomber. It was intended to evade enemy fighters with its high speed and successfully carry out reconnaissance and bombing missions. The R2Y1 followed a similar concept. It was originally developed as a reconnaissance aircraft but was later adapted into a high-speed torpedo bomber.
By the end of 1944, one of the aircraft the IJN was seeking was a high-speed torpedo bomber capable of sinking Allied aircraft carriers and battleships. With battleships continuously being added to War Thunder, I find it puzzling why Gaijin headquarters is not considering the addition of a high-speed torpedo bomber capable of sinking them.

The first and second flight tests of the R2Y1.
After the war ended, the Americans showed interest in information about the R2Y1 and attempted to capture the aircraft, but the Japanese had already destroyed it by detonation.
