This infrared Air-to-Air Missile is basic of 5th gen IR missile same AIM-9X (Blk I)
The first 5th gen IR missile for russian 4th gen & 4.5 gen fighter aircraft

Both AAM-5 and AAM-5B are LOBA, LOAL, and INS. No data link.
Both the AAM-5 and 5B 256x256 for their seeker head. This being said, the AAM-5B was specifically said to exceed the capabilities of the Python-5 and ASRAAM in IRCCM by post upgrade analysis. This is likely due to how it’s signal processing works, which is a bit different to other IIR missiles.
Instead of using contrast edge detection to look for either a general outline or the shape of a specific target, it instead finds a target then tries to search for what it was locked onto. This means unlike other IIR missiles, which lock effectiveness is aspect dependent, the AAM-5B can effectively maintain a lock even against smart flares regardless of aspect.

@Patriotic_FR where does the 16 km ground launch range for ASRAAM come from?

Iirc there was a interview with one of the Ukrainians that had contact with Supacat
Yeah it was from an article when the brist gave some ground launched ASRAAM to Ukraine.
The commander of the SAM said that it has around 10 miles of range.
It also seems pretty realistic since the MICA IR has 18/20 km max range and the ASRAAM has a bit lower range.

Today we’ll be taking a look at the EldE 98, an advanced SAM system with all-aspect IRIS-T missiles for the top of the Swedish ground forces line!
EldE 98: An SPAA (SAM) for Sweden at Rank VIII
At a glance:
IRIS-T missiles, but just four of them
Long range detection
Unique layout, as the missiles are located on a trailer
Vehicle History
Sweden was involved in the IRIS short and medium range missile development program, which wer…
Welp, time to retarget this thread.
Given it’s only the second blog, I could very well see more than just the IRIS-T being unveiled in this patch.
Not mentioned in by the OP or the devblog, but the IRIS-Ts seeker lock range is equivalent to its aerodynamic range:
So it should never have any issues with lock range in-game.
We’ll have to see, gaijin has a track record of ignoring seeker lock range on bug reports and proper sources. See AIM-9M, FIM-92, Mistral and etc.

Its not
Python 5 have upgraded airframe based on the python 4
Its also lighter
yeah frankly i’d expect it to be about 20-22km
Well there we have it, the first incarnation of the IRIS-T’s stat card

I wish they started listing the IRCCM Methods in the statcard instead of Yes/No, would be interesting to know

So whos gonna make the Bug report about Gs?
And lock range
Is there any source for it having a higher G load than that? I’ve not seen one.

There are only footages that seems to be pulling an impressive amount as I know, but videos cannot be viewed as a report heh.
Only a statement from a Manager that works at Diehl Defence that it turns in half the radius than a R-73
With the IRIS-T having more speed than the R73…
But doesn’t motor thrust also drop off then ramp back up specifically to keep the speed lower immediately after launch for doing super tight turns?
