I am sick of this. Everytime I try to land, creating somewhat ideal but doable scenarios to land, it just won’t. I have to be basically going a specific speed, stall landing. My question is, why are the gears so weak? This is too unrealistic. I gently push my nose down and try to impact land, and my gears spontaneously combust. This does not happen in real life, I’m sure we’ve all seen those drop tests. Why does this happen though.
If you don’t say how fast you hit the ground, it’s difficult to comment on you.
Furthermore, plane models are terribly designed.
Traditionally, the calculation of the force transmitted to the structure by the landing gear during landings is performed analytically by equating the system’s energies during landing with the energy dissipated by the landing gear. We obtain the following expression:

With:
M, mass of the aircraft.
V, landing speed.
L, lift value.
Fv, vertical force transmitted by the landing gear to the structure.
∆tire, tire deformation.
∆damper, shock absorber travel.
g, gravitational acceleration constant.
tire n, tire efficiency coefficient. Generally taken as 0.47.
damper n, shock absorber efficiency coefficient. Generally taken as 0.8 for a
hydropneumatic shock absorber.
To incorporate the concept of a ratio between the force transmitted to the aircraft and its mass, a landing load factor is defined and corresponds to the ratio of the force transmitted by the landing gear to the mass of the aircraft. Denoted N, this is expressed as:

From expression, equation becomes:

That’s the detailed explanation of how it should be calculated, but I doubt it will be reflected in the games.
I was going 300~ KMPH in a SU-33, which should be good. I really appreciate your incorporation of the landing gear vertical load calculation. This honestly is basic aerospace engineering, and Gaijin should definitely code it into their game.
If youre breaking gear while landing in a plane youre almost certainly coming in from too steep an angle
What is thou’s slope when landing? Typically landing slopes are around a 3º descent onto the runway.
I’m not, it is ideal, when I checked just now it was 4 degrees.
4 degrees, 300-350 KMPH, SU-33.

It’s worth what it’s worth, but the estimated impact speed was 240 km/h.
I admit I’m a little surprised; I would have thought it would be higher.
God that is low, that must be why, thanks a bunch man.
Out of curiosity, I looked up the Rafale’s landing speed; it’s a maximum of 222 km/h, lol.
I don’t think I ever realized landing speeds were that low.
Thank God War Thunder has a slightly larger tolerance for this, otherwise I would never be able to land anything going that slow.
I mean generally your gear wont break while landing unless you exceed the gear rip speed which the game tells you, as long as youre under that its just a matter of having a long enough runway
Type of post I imagine from a navy pilot
a bit odd given the Su-33 is a carrier aircraft with reinforced gear to withstand not just the rate of decent of the aircraft, but the impact of the carrier being lifted into the plane by the ocean swell as well.
