Why some top tier tanks have no ERA

the abrams is like a heavy light tank

and also why abrams no autoloader?

Idk, it’s pretty damn mobile for its weight. The T-80’s and T-72’s max out a like 75mph due to how light they are without ammunition or ERA.

because having an extra crew member makes life 1000% better for the crew irl

Western design philosophy, also long term maintenance costs would have been detrimental. They tried on the MBT-70 program, even the XM-1 protos had them, but they opted for human loaded.

This is, not true in the slightest, but sure…

Loaders can fuck up, autoloaders can only fuck up if the gunner pushed the wrong button.

and somehow human load is faster than autoloader

It isn’t, in realistic combat that is. Firing ranges are different, also the overall design of the Autoloader effects it’s speed heavily.

Example being, Russian autoloaders are slower, and clunkier with many more moving parts. In retrospect, Type 90/10 or Cockerill XM-8 bussel loaders are extremely quick, being 3-4 seconds from firing to next shot.

the abrams reload is 6.5 seconds and the ztz96b (with autoloader) is 6.7 seconds

its only a bit faster

6.9 on the Electrical type if I remember correctly. Abrams can be as fast as 5.0 seconds. Not realistic in the slightest.

i guess the loader is a muscle man

Well, it’s a video game, irl, trying to load while traveling over any sort of uneven terrain, human loaders instantly become inferior. Even vastly inferior to their NATO Autoloader brethren, Leclerc, Type 90/10, and K2 technically.

uh? theres video proof of abrams and leopards reloading in about 4s and videos of challengers reloading in 3s

Sitting still on a firing range with the blast door left open, grabbing rounds out before the gunner even fires. It’s called ‘lap loading’ and every tank should have it if that’s what gaijin is basing manual loading off of.

The issue is you can’t balance manual loaders based on the terrain they’re driving on, or G-forces they’re experiencing. Well, you can, it would just be super clunky for gameplay.

gaijin bases reload off not much its one of the only things about a tank they can change for balancing

Like the IS-2/3/4/6/7 and many more. Which isn’t a balance the Abrams needed imho, but, that’s another debate not for this topic.

no for everything apart from combat which is like 90% of the time having an extra crew member is better for maintenance and morale etc

This is true, but look at the best example of this. The Strv 103, it doesn’t technically have to have 2 crew, let alone 3, but it made life much easier, as well as statistical testing that 2 people alone and confined are more likely to have issues or fight each other without a third person. (This is real shit btw, you can fact check if you’d like)

In this perfect fantasy world of warthunder though that other 90% of time doesn’t exist.
