Time that could be spent killing more enemies too…
The Achilles is open topped and has a roomier turret than the Sherman Firefly, so the reload rate should actually be faster (If you go by IRL logic)
Currently Firefly has 5.9s reload speed, and the Achilles 6.7s
In all honesty APHE should just be nerfed.
I agree with you, that extra penetration doesn’t really make up for the worse reload.
A 5.5 / 6.0s reload for the Achilles and an APHE nerf would make them a lot more equal, but I think an APHE rework for all calibers is going to take a lot of time to correctly rework the BRs of most vehicles at lower tiers. Some vehicles won’t really be impacted by the change by much (such as the M10 at 3.3), but some others will be affected by quite a bit (such as the Jumbo). Common weakspots for certain vehicles will no longer be that effective, so they may have to be moved up in BR too.
I think <40mm caliber guns should have the rework already implemented, though, as to reduce the effectiveness of easily spammable SPAA APHE. That and their inability to penetrate armour once ricocheting (to prevent annoying and unreasonable trap shots).
For now, I really just want a better reload for the Achilles or maybe just move the M10 to 3.7.
Yes, that might take some time but I think it’s for the best. This game boasts about it’s realism, so having such a fictional mechanic makes no sense.
Agreed.
AAs hunting cupolas with their nuke APHE is incredibly toxic and unrealistic gameplay.
I think that would be fine.
Been awhile now but I remember Achillies optics being terrible and solid shot has no spalling.
The M10 has APHE.
Achilles’ is more zoomed in (3.0x - 6.0x) while M10’s is less zoomed in (1.9x - 3.5x).
Achilles’ optics would be better for further ranges, but M10’s is better for closer ranges.
17 Pounder gun is supreme if you know how to use it. With this cannon you can literally play on 5.7 and still do plenty of mess on the enemy team. The only thing you need to do is to remember where the ammo racks are placed.
I know, but both guns can basically lol-pen anything at the 2.3-4.3 BR range.
Now tell me, why would you rather have 6.7s reload 190mm pen AP over 5s reload 149mm pen 60g TNT equivalent APHE?
The QF-17 has 90m/s higher muzzle velocity too, that make compensation for lead and drop easier.
That’s true, but again, do you really think that’s worth it?
Hold on… you think people play a nation for one specific vehicle? At low tier?
IF the two vehicles were in the same nation I could see where you are coming from.
But they are not.
That’s like asking “why play an IS-1 when you could play a Tiger H?”
Because people want to try the entire Tech Tree of that nation.
(on a side note, dropping the m10 down to 3.3 may be not that much of an advantage. Not a lot of 3.3 USA vehicles to play it with. You’d have to drop the m24 and use the M5A1 for a light tank)
Personally yeah, more reliably hitting and disabling with the 1st shot is more useful than a faster re-fire if I miss completely and extra 1 or 2 secs on the reload doesn’t hurt when they can’t shoot back. And OHK potential is also pointless if you miss or bounce.
I get where you’re coming from, so let me rephrase it:
Why is the M10 the same BR as the Achilles, especially after they both got moved down in BR (190mm pen becomes even more overkill) and the M10 had gotten a 5s reload buff (from 5.9s)?
I guess people prefer higher velocity solid shot than 5s reload 60g TNT equivalent APHE…
Why were people complaining about unrealistic APHE 😅
Achillies as mentioned has better pen and better optics. The .50 cal also has better vertical guidance making it easier to hit air units.
Also, the muzzle velocity of the Shot. Mk 8 is greater than that of the m62. So the Achillies, with it’s better optics would be significantly better at long range.
some people
Better pen is irrelevant for the most part, like I said before.
The better optics is arguable since the Achilles’ optics are better suited for long ranges while the M10’s is better suited for closer ranges.
That being said, the Achilles and M10 should be playing at longer ranges (because of the abysmal turret rotation speed), so I will give it that.
The 50.cal placement is better on the Achilles, that is also true.
Even if you don’t think the M10 should go up to 3.7, I assume you would be fine with it getting a 5.5s / 5.9s reload buff?
Why not both ? Look, AP is not a really big deal for me. You need to aim at racks anyways.
If you are trying to brawl in the m10, good luck. Both have terrible turret rotation, so the farther you are from your target the better - for BOTH.
You might think the achillies pen is overkill but…
- What you see on paper is never the same as what you see in battle. You will have more bounces due to angling on the m10 than you will on the Achillies.
