Why is there an echo all of a sudden?

Seems like every bit of audio in-game now comes with an echo? It’s awful, and I cannot find a way to disable it. Anyone else find it distracting?

Dunno, but crew voice are terrible now. Like they are sitting in aluminium can

Yes. I’ve described it like they’re shouting at me through a carboard tube from 30’ away. I also find nearly all in-game audio sounds hollow and muffled like I just went swimming and my ear canal is filled with water.

In addition, I noticed that sometimes the rocket launch sound disappears.

audio is broken

sometimes you cannot hear a tank, plane or heli, sometimes there is no sound of missile launching etc., and as you described, all sounds are muffled or something… and that crew voice, its terrible

I had my own tanks engine making no noise earlier.

But yeah, that effect is awful, especially the crew voices.

Setting to turn it off or remove it please. It’s horrible.

It’s such an usual change to make. It doesn’t make the game more enjoyable. If anything it achieves the opposite. And it’s not historically accurate because the tanks were so loud a voice (shout) wouldn’t have a detectable echo or sound tinny. In some tanks, the crew would be using head sets so you’d have more-less full fidelity.

I wish time would be spent fixing the map rotation so I don’t get stuck on the same map for 4-5 games (sometimes more), and so it doesn’t feel like I’m locked into the same 5 maps for a over month with a random map I haven’t played in forever sprinkled in once in a blue moon. Or, how the machine gun on my T-34-85 can shoot down trees and walls one day, then cannot shoot them down (even bushes) the following day. But, instead of fixing what’s broken, their efforts are put into making the game worse.

Wish they just made this new audio optional

I thought it was me and trying to figure what running application was interfering.

I don’t have echo.

I have fade in fade out

There’s a specific volume control for the crew voices so at least you can turn them off completely.

Unfortunately, crew can give you an edge in sniping so you shouldn’t turn them off. When measuring range, they will call out the distance and tank type faster than the actual number shows up - a necessary edge in some matchups.

explosions, gunfire are muffled, it sounds like you are beating someone with a carpet or something

and worse thing is, its very hard to tell the direction gunfire, its just there, everywhere

i dont know what audio equipment they have, that this sounds fine to devs

Looks like they were trying to emulate the sounds within the tank (muffled and echoy) vs. outside. Muffled seems to be good, but the echo effect is just wrong for tanks. They are not only loud inside there are all kinds of pipes and fittings that don’t let echo happen. And crews wear headphones.
Sound Guy just has to do Sound Guy stuff I guess…

I’m willing to bet that the developers visited a tank museum (or watched an episode of Inside the Chieftain’s Hatch), heard the echo from within the tank, and attempted to reproduce it. They failed to realize that the echo will only happen inside a quiet hanger with the tank engine turned off…not while it’s in operation, and certainly not while in battle.

And turning off the crew sounds wasn’t enough. I’ve resorted to playing with music in the background to drown out all of the annoying audio.

Yeah I’m not sure about this one, it sounds like they are in a tunnel, and every time they say a word radio static comes up, which doesn’t make any sense. Some tanks are so crowded and small inside that there would be no echo, it would be a cool detail in tanks like the Maus or Char 2C.

My first time hearing it was… in the Na-To. An open topped SPG. Go figure.

still no sound on some ground vehicles when launching a missile

Not a big deal for me as I’ve been playing long enough that I don’t need to rangefind.
