Why is the Stormer HVM so bad?

A single weak spring was replaced with two stronger springs because there was not enough force to fully close the bolt sometimes, more so with any kind of dust or debris in the breach.

The tolerances on the gas parts was improved significantly. Loose gas parts would result in the bolt not being pushed back all the way resulting in spent casings failing to eject.

Tolerances on the bolt parts improved significantly.

Added firing pin retention pin to the bolt to stop the firing pin falling out of the bolt when disassembling.

Bolt and gas parts anodised to prevent buildup of carbon which would cause the bolt to size up.

The shell ejector was improved significantly. (Would fail to eject spent casing from the breach when a bit of dirt/carbon was present, resulting in double feeds)

The firing pin upgraded to better quality material as it would break often and easily.

The cocking handle redesigned to defect casings away from the ejection port as they would often bounce back into the rifle after being ejected.

Cocking handle strength improved as it would break/fall out.

Magazine release catch guard added to prevent your mag falling off when patrolling with the weapon in a rested position again your body, also made the magazine port a lot less slippery so mags don’t drop put of the weapon AR15 style. (It was deemed irresponsible for soldiers to keep losing their mags)

Bayonets catch improved to stop your bayonets falling off.

Magazine material changed from aluminium to steel as they would bend if you sat on them causing rounds to get stuck.

Magazine spring significantly strengthened as it would be worn out easily, soldiers would be told to load no more than 20 rounds to stop them being worn out too quickly.

Plastic parts would melt when coming in contact with the issued insect repellant.

Plastic parts would crack in cold weather

Plastic parts would fall off in hot weather (crap glue)

Handguard would melt after fring too many rounds

Handguard gas part inspection flap would pop open when firing (has always been an issue on all variants except A3)

Handguard not free floating (not fixed until the A3)

Susat sights could sometimes leak tritium gas… apparently. The amount of times I’d see people drop their rifles on their sights and still be able to shoot straight, but of you sneezed on it they would lose their zero.

The Bolt carrier rails being more warped than the enterprise d probably didn’t help much either

You see it a lot on UK firearms manufacturing of the period unfortunately, not even sure it’s malice or anything, just engineers with no previous firearms trying to bring the unit cost down. (See AI PM firing pins)

While it was an initial setback for AI, it actually turned out to be a huge boon for them as it allowed them to get the funds to be able to start their own production lines instead of relying on subcontractors.

The company they subcontracted to was actually in aerospace and went bust afterwards.

This
I handle L98A2 on a regular basis (which is literally an L85A2 but it’s restricted to semi automatic fire - the selector switch is removed (though the fittings for it still exist, so it, so I understand, could probably get the work to convert it back) and to be fair for what it is, it’s an effective
L85A3 is a solid bit of kit by all accounts. The plastic fittings at the front don’t touch the barrel at all, which is generally a positive.

I don’t know about that (L85A1 was my dad’s era haha, although he does remark in his photo album that it was “ill fated”) but given what SOPs we do have, it would make sense. you’re supposed to “battle clean” after every range shoot, (so oil working parts, etc)

From what I have heard, A1 suffered from anything between stoppages due to sand (aged like fine wine because Op Granby) to the plastic on the weapons… falling off.
If memory serves it didn’t help the magazines had a tendency to fall out.

As far as improvements go, I’ve never had any major dramas with the A2 (the only stoppage i’ve had is… user error! gas tap set to “off” or “excess”, either of which convert your L85A2/L98A2 into a Bolt Action rifle… entertaining to say the least). It’s a decent bit of kit, though when cleaning the spring (the recoil spring) is a pain in the arse to get in and out. Again, normally down to user error, though it’s always a bit of a pain.

The only real problem (and this is more a problem more widely now, not just for SA80 family) is 5.56 isn’t very punchy. More the fault of NATO for making it a standard ammunition type, and everyone’s stuck with it for forevermore. Not a problem when you’re punching paper but not ideal…

They didn’t seat correctly as well with much more than 20 rounds, again down to spring strength (or lack of), which meant they didn’t feed well into the weapon… and uh, you know the rest.

Please, I beg for mercy
It is quite entertaining when some poor unsuspecting sod yells “STOPPAGE” at the top of their lungs and upon closer examination, it is indeed the gas tap, and they are made to feel very stupid as you adjust as required with your combi tool.

I know, and I’m terribly sorry.
However, sharing dits on how garbage the A1 is… is quite frankly irresistible.

You must be a young cadet, the L98A1 is straight pull, using a bit of rod stuck to the outside.

Is the LMM the same as the Marlet or is it different

Martlet is just another name for the LMM, but do not confuse it with Martel, it is a different missile.

na boet its not even ping thats the problem, im still having to lead a much as i did when i was still living in south africa and had 150+ ping

i still cant figure out why the starstreaks have so bad penetration. its like at close range they only work as a weak rocket.

wait now that i think of it could they have model it like a rocket? lol

They had somewhere around 70mm in the past, but it got nerfed due to ballance, as it was possible to use them as a atgm, even tho the starstreak penetrates using 3 tungsten darts

much like every other aa.

actually i suspect the moments we have of it and no damage is because of no pen even on planes. they explode outside counts as hit and because low explosive mass they do very low dmg.

It somewhat penetrates

yes but because the pen is so low most of the times it just does nothing

ye

Have you ever shot down a guided munition using the Stormer? I would expect an SAM like this to be able to intercept missiles. In game, it seems close to impossible, in the sense that you are not going to hit them, much like with recon drones.

I used to shoot down guided munitions targeting friendly tanks using the ADATS. It gives you no reward, but it’s fun to do when you have the chance.

Nope, niether i did the scout drone. It is nearly impossible to aim the darts at the missile/drone. It alost seem like they do not interact with eachother. Drones would be shot down with the FCS aiming for the gunner. Missile might be shot down if we had the irl starstreak flight patterm.
