Why is the Stormer HVM so bad?

Really wish they had archived the old forums…

I dont have much of an issue with using the Starsteak as long as its within its launch parameters. However as the whole system is IRST, is there any intention to give the system some sort of IRCCM so it wont keep tracking flaring targets?

specifically mentions how it shouldn’t trigger LWS or MAW.

Here is more info from the manufacturer saying in excess of 7km for kills. Also shows that the tracker is underperforming - it should be able to track fighter/ground attack jets up to 18km and helis 8km. Currently it only tracks up to about 8km for everything.

@Gunjob

It talks quite a lot about the automatic target tracking and engagement, to the point where it’s fire and forget. Is that good enough evidence that the sight/launcher should lead targets so that the darts are already on target when released from the second stage motor?

At bare minimum, it should give an accurate aiming point:

Given the HVM system is much more advanced than the hand held system; automatic lead would definitely be on the cards

I also feel like the darts are not agile enough in the air after separating. When you see how quickly they can oscilate and move around in the footage, it seems strange that it takes them from 800m to nearly 2km to even get close to the middle of the “aiming matrix”.

Do you think it is modelled as one spinning “projectile” with effectively three fuzes?

Probably though we know Starstreak was continually updated, old material might say 5.5km+, some say up to 7km, others say greater than 7km.
Starstreak II is also known as Starstreak A5, externally it looks identical to me.

Yeah it was just improvement afaik. There was also a proposed, confusingly, Starstreak 2.0 in the last few years, but that hasn’t gone ahead yet.

Don’t understand why it says
Low Energy lasers to ensure NO Warning to the Target

Even if the energy is very low and using frequency switching to confuse the receiver (probably doesn’t work for lasers but is used in “stealth” radar’s)

Shouldn’t a Advanced enough system detect even that?

AFAIK A5 refers to the K130A5 missile where “Starstreak II” referred to upgrades of the whole system including the aiming unit

The main problem with the stormer as it stands is the fact that it breaks lock for literally anything.
Flares? Forcible lock switch.
Rockets? Forcible lock switch.
ATGM? Forcible lock switch.
Bombs? Forcible lock switch.

Stormer HVM — a bug has been fixed where the missile was able to penetrate any obstacle at dart separation distance (app. 320 metres).

not bad.

Had a good game with the Stormer, got 5 air kills and 5 ground kills.

Maybe in about three or four years we may eventually see the lock-on bug being fixed and reverting the damage nerf.
Or more likely not.

In regards to the AhMk1 part:
you launched it wrong, that’s a skill issue, learn how to properly launch them

Stormer HVM (Starstreaks) are literally the best missiles that you can get on a 10.3 platform, but is very skill-dependant (and latency), and in the hands of a capable player, more feared by air vehicles (planes and especially helis)(within it’s range) than even VT1s

You’re objectively wrong.
Starstreaks before the latest nerfs? Sure.
Now? No chance.
The damage they dealt on impact got nerfed noticeably and the lock breaks and violently switches to any flares, rockets or ATGMs fired.
Throw in the nerf to manoeuvrability to what was already a horrible 1-2km deadzone making it perform even worse in this area.
Tie this in with the existing phase through bug and it is now more inconsistent than it has been in a very long time.

No offence, but what is your point? That someone with more hours than 99.99% of players can do well in the vehicle, therefore it isn’t bad?
