Why is the R-73 so bad?

Radar really does not matter until R-77 is added, after the changes to R-27s thrust and the speed bleed changes very long range shots are very hard vs non bot players, the missile lacks the range. the radar on the regular one is good enough. we do not have the extra CM in the game, only 60CMs.

he doesn’t care cause its German and turns better so you know should not exist

in the next update they are giving the smt more cms

You don’t need more Cm…

we will have the extra CM in game by the time the 29G gets added. And it’s way too easy to notch the 27ERs from the 9.13 and 9.12A, so I’d argue the better radar is already very valuable. I’ll probably like em both, but for different reasons.

His point stands. It’s a double standard by gaijin. They have to drop their claim of historical accuracy if they keep doing half arsed addition like that

Radar matters most for SARHs, less so for ARHs like R-77.

@J_ackal
You mean consistency. Consistent rules for all tech trees & vehicles is the opposite of a double standard.

They stopped the historical accuracy claim years ago.

Mods on this forum have long said they care about balance over historical accuracy (if the vehicle could mount/use them, then it’s possible to be added in game.)

Wrong. Just flat out wrong.
Gaijin still makes the claim that vehicles in War Thunder are authentic, because they are.
There’s good reason no vehicle in War Thunder has fictional loadouts.

The vehicles are as realistic as possible.

We are talking about mounted weaponry.

What I said isn’t wrong either, mods like Smin have said as much.

The first vehicle that comes to mind is the MiG-23ML which has R-24s it could never fire IRL.

An upgrade program to give the ML that capability was done and it was made into the MLA variant.

Mig-23MLs were using R-24s in 1982.
R-24s were initially tested on modified Mig-23Ms, but it seems MLs had compatibility.

Yes, all vehicles are realistic in loadouts.

In 1981 the ML was upgraded to feature the new Sapfir-23MLA radar and ASP-17ML HUD as well as the ability to fire R-24s.

MLs that could fire the R-24 were designated MLAs.

MiG-23ML with radar N-003 Amethyst, that is, MiG-23ML(A) is an unofficial name in serial production since 1978…
R-24R…1979

Spoiler

…In the following 1976, factory tests were completed with eight launches of “products 142”. A year later, the bulk of the state tests were carried out, which were additionally involved in the MiG-23M No. 8530 and a number of MiG-23ML prototypes (No. 124, 125, 126). However, the identified shortcomings of the GOS required additional improvements, so that flights and missile launches continued until 1979…

R-24T…1980

Spoiler

In 1979, 14 combat and two autonomous missiles were launched, completing the second stage of state tests by signing a corresponding act in early 1980. The following year, the act of the state commission with a recommendation to adopt the missile was approved. The prototypes of the MiG-23ML (No. 124 and 125) and its modifications for the MiG-23P air defense (No. 141 and 142), as well as the MiG-23UB sparky (No. 1301 and 202) participated in the flight tests of the thermal variant.

The formal adoption of both versions of the new missile as the standard armament of the MiG-23ML and MiG-23P aircraft was carried out by decree of April 6, 1981.
The refinement of the MiG-23ML(A) into the MiG-23MLD(23-18) variant began in May 1982…

Following this logic, I want to nominate you to be the Head Director of the new movement aimed at rebalancing dozens if not hundreds of aircraft as well as tanks that are going to lose armaments because they’re not adhering to the strictiest of “historical accuracy” standards.

For sure all Ariete players will love you for getting that DM53 removed, for sure BMP-2M players would just love losing their APFSDS etc etc, you’re starting today, ready or not - GO!

Just kidding, all of those vehicles received those weapons for balance, just like 29G has ER & ET for balance…

No, 9.13 uses the same radar/fire control system, so it wouldn’t get them either.
Either all 3 get them or none. Realism & fairness is most important.

Again you are talking like an AI.

he probably is one

The reason it seems not to knpw what kind of interception path to take is that gaijin modelled it witha time variant PID controller. Its (afaik) the only missile ingame that has this implemented, and results in the missile literally following different flight trajectories solely based on its time in flight. Its really fking weird…

He said similar things in a different thread as well.
