radar slaving doesn’t do anything once the missile is off the rail, only thing radar slaving will help you with is firing through flares which isn’t a great idea even with slaving.

other than that, you’re just alerting your target to your presence

Seeker shutoff is active as soon as the missile locks a target (even on the rail)
This means you can get better hits through preflaring targets with radar slaving

any ir missile only works close range , the enemy is very aware of your presence regardless

yeah say that to my regular 6+km sidewinder snipes and 10+km R-27ET snipes buddy.

the enemy doesn’t have to be aware of your presence if you make sure you’re never detected, such as by not hoovering the ground because you think multipathing is still meta

For auto flaring targets, tracking shutoff is better. They mostly go bomb somewhere in a straight line anyways.

For maneuvers, fov is better. Slight change in the speed vector and your missile goes to space.

Magic is also kinematically better than AIM-9M / L-I

Nah any IR missile with data link would be busted unless you have long range MAWS, im fine with running all FOX3 on my french jets
