Ground BRs need decompression, especially between 6.7-9.3. Plenty of examples of vehicles that outclass every vehicle at their own BR. T-54 at 8.0 vs Type 69 at 8.0. Nearly the same tank, but the type 69 has stabilizer and laser range finder. Its insanity that ground BRs haven’t been decompressed further.
Most 8.7 vehicles are vehicles the IS-6 should never face.
Atleast the HEAT tanks are almost all light tanks. There’s loads of tanks that are completely helpless against IS series tanks.
IS series in a down tier is going to be mean, but against tanks of similar or higher BR: you don’t really stand much of a chance.
You have 3 IS tanks (well technically one is a T) at 7.7 and every MBT at 7.7-8.0 or higher has HEAT shells. Your armor is literally just butter and you have a 20s reload when every MBT is <9s.
Moving them lower would make it even more OP in downtiers. It’s better that a tank sucks than it be OP.

It’s better to just not play the IS series past the IS-2 for your own sanity. The T-54/T-55 series are just far better at that BR. Faster reload, better pen, and access to better shells. The IS-7 is basically extinct when it used to be spammed pretty often.
The Object 248 is my favorite IS tank because it has the 100m gun on a 9s reload.
Pretty much every tank/SPG in this game that relies on armour has the same problem: dogshit in full uptier.
So, why not reduce their SP cost in full uptier to that of a medium tank?

6.7-8.7 is a jumbled mess of Cold War, WW2, and post WW2 tanks made unenjoyable because of the HEATFS rounds and ATGMs.
You mean it’s better for a tank to suck in uptiers then to suck all the time.
A lot of vehicles can be quite strong in downtiers.
But even when you get uptiered to 8.0, you are still harder to be killed by everyting below 8.0 then most 8.0 vehicles.
There’s a difference between being strong in downtiers, and being near untouchable whilst being able to 1-shot 90% of tanks without even aiming.
I wish they would balance the heavies like they do with the lower BRs. Most of them have armor that actually works if you angle it properly, but your gun is almost always bad, so it requires a lot of skill to use effectively.
With all these HEATFS rounds, tanks that rely on armor have their only strength nullified, and this starts as early as 6.0 with the M51. Once you’re up to 7.7, HEATFS rounds are common and the primary shell for almost every nation’s MBTs.
So it creates this weird situation where if you’re playing an IS-6 and get downtiered against 6.7 tanks without HEATFS you’re incredibly tough, but then you fight 7.7-8.7 tanks and your armors no better than a light tank. Your gun also starts to suck pretty hard at that BR spread as well because the 100mm guns are just flat out better.
The one shot cannon at 5.7 would surely be fun for everyone.
They aren’t equal to a King Tiger. lol
Haven’t played the 248 but the IS is equal to the KT.
It used to be 5.7, and I didn’t have issues with it there, but maybe 6.0 would be better.
The IS is already good at 6.3 it would be a beast at 6.0 and completely overpowered at 5.7.
the common sabot of 8.0 can BARELY penetrate the front plate on an IS6, if you angle your tank like 5 degrees you are guaranteed impenetrable to a leopards sabot

Thing is, all soviet heavies aside the t10m, obj 279 and is7 (those are too high br for their armor to matter) have some sort of major weakspot. Is 1/2 has the breach, cupola, lfp. Is3 has the driver’s hatch trapshot. Is4m is similar where drivers hatch is just a flat surface. is6 has the turret cheeks near the breach and the cupola, although this tank is a bit of a volumetric menace.
There are 7.7 tanks that can do way more damage in a full downtier despite having less armor
You forgot one glaring weakness for the IS-2 onward.
The cannon barrel.
Armor may as well be meaningless on all Soviet heavies since you need to get close in order to aim precisely to make your subpar gun work, as well as compensate for bad main gun optics. But getting close means everyone and their cat will shoot your barrel tip, rendering your armor functionally meaningless unless a 3rd party comes to save the day.
The 7.7 IS and T-10 tanks are definitely not a point and click experience because 230mm of pen still requires you to precisely aim all of your shots and there’s quite a few tanks you can’t pen frontally that easily. Your armor is basically butter against everything you face as well. The 8.0 T-10M at least gets HEATFS and APDS rounds.
I could live with the crappy gun situation, but the non existent armor problem because of HEATFS spam is the real issue. Some of these tanks have 350mm of frontal armor, but a 6.0 M-51 can hit you in the front and kill 3 out of 4 crew with the first shot.
