MiG-19PM (Farmer-E): The Missile-Only Interceptor We Need

I want to propose adding the MiG-19PM (NATO reporting name: Farmer-E) to the game. It would make a great addition to the East German line in the German tree, the USSR main tree, or even the Hungarian subtree for Italy. We already have the MiG-19PT and MiG-19S, but the PM variant brings a completely different playstyle to the table. Built strictly around the early Soviet “flying missile launcher” doctrine, it ditched all its internal NR-30 cannons to carry early beam-riding missiles. This would introduce a very distinct, tactical playstyle focused entirely on radar intercepting rather than traditional guns-on dogfighting.

Historical Context

Introduced in 1957, the MiG-19PM was an all-weather interceptor variant modified from the baseline MiG-19P. The Mikoyan-Gurevich design bureau completely redesigned the nose and wing roots to strip out the guns, making room for the K-5M beam-riding missile system. It relied heavily on the RP-2U (Izumrud-2) radar housed in the nose cone to lock and guide its ordnance. Around 394 units were built in the USSR, with many exported to Warsaw Pact allies like East Germany, Poland, and Czechoslovakia. They served through the 1960s as a stopgap until newer platforms like the MiG-21 phased them out.

Loadout Options

  • 4 × K-5M (RS-2U) beam-riding air-to-air missiles
  • 2 × ORO-57K rocket pods (16 × S-5 rockets total)
  • 2 × FAB-250 (250 kg) bombs

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Excellent Flight Model: You get the same insane airframe performance as the standard MiG-19. Acceleration, climb rate, and vertical energy retention are top-tier, meaning you can easily out-loop Sabres, Hunters, or early starfighters.
  • Radar Hunting: The RP-2U radar gives you a huge advantage in cloud cover, bad weather, or Sim battles where spotting visually is tough.
  • All-Aspect Weaponry: Unlike early IR missiles (AIM-9B or R-3S) that require a lock on the hot tailpipe, these early beam-riders can technically hit targets from any angle—including head-on—if you keep your radar lock steady.

Cons:

  • Zero Gun Backup: Once your four missiles are gone or evaded, you are completely defenseless. No gun pods, no internal cannons.
  • Rigid Flight Path Constraints: Because the K-5M is a beam-riding missile, you have to fly in a relatively straight line toward the target until impact. Aggressive evasive maneuvers will break the radar beam alignment and make the missile go dumb.
  • High Parasitic Drag: Carrying four massive launch rails and bulky K-5Ms severely drags down the top speed to roughly 1,250 km/h, making the jet feel significantly heavier than a clean MiG-19S.
  • Not a Dogfighter: While the airframe handles high-G turns well, the radar beam does not. Hard-turning targets will slide right out of your narrow guidance cone, making it almost impossible to land a missile mid-turn.

Let me know what you guys think about the BR placement!
